Wow the market for value sparkling is loaded! Never would have thought this was from the Loire Valley. Wine has high acid as you’d expect, nice notes of apples, baked bread and subtle cherry jubilee. — 4 years ago
Wednesday Wine Committee from this past week. A fantastic hosting by @joe leatherwood . 1 sparkler, 2 whites, 5 reds, 1 dessert wine. All tasted blind as usual.
I had this wine a year and a half ago...and I think it may be better now! Still hard for me to wrap my head around Hundred Acre tasting and aging like this. Brilliant bright ruby in the glass. Soft cherries, sweet ripe black cherries, sandalwood, nutmeg and added baking spices. Very balanced and elegant on the palate...cherries jubilee and liqueur, sweet kirsch and licorice. Drinking beautifully! I was between old Napa cab and Italian merlot. — 5 years ago
Queen’s jubilee rose. Less sweet than the average rose, with nice floral notes — 3 years ago
Toasted strawberry, raspberry, and cherry jubilee. Excellent balance of fruit forward and nice dry tannic finish. An appropriate complement to dense fish. — 5 years ago
Smacks you in the face with French oak - clove, nutmeg, vanilla bean, cedar bark. There is a richness to the oak, which mellows with air. Plum, blackcherry, and black raspberry fruit too... rich and extracted in style. Palate delivers smokey dark cherry and plum, with cocoa shavings engulfed in vanilla and baking spices. Think cherry jubilee with vanilla bean ice cream. Tannins have softened and are balanced beautifully with elegant acidity. Rich and opulent. This is winter time fireside wine - pair with dark chocolate mousse. Drink now with a splash decant. — 5 years ago
The nose on this is gorgeous. There’s a lightness of bread, honeysuckle, and rain. Then I also get a red wine like smell of cherries and currants. Palate is impressive and leans more toward oak and red wine. Forest for sure, really interesting fruit with apple, hint of tropical fruit, some cantaloupe, sourdough toast, and cherries jubilee. I’m not sure I’m doing it justice in describing. It just keeps evolving. Seems to punch well over its weight class. Hope I can secure another bottle or two. *pic of the white wines* One of the wines I supplied for an annual lunch hosting (co-host this time), along with the 2018 Morlet LpD. 2009 was the last year Hugel used “Jubilee” before moving to “Grossi Laüe”. This is Hugel’s “Grand Cru” selection from their Schoenenbourg vineyard.
Undeniably Alsatian Riesling in the glass from first whiff…floral, minerals, and only slightly TDN (petrol) aromatic driven, but noticeable power. Vintage (and age) has helped this reach a fantastic drinking window where acidity and flavor profile are in balance and not fighting each other. Ripe herb-crusted yellow fruits alongside limestone/mineral in a powerful profile. There is warmth to this vintage and it makes an appearance in how fleshy the wine is (which is great). At almost 16yrs, there is no rush, but this drinking window is exceptional. — 7 days ago
