Viñedos del Contino (CVNE)

Single Vineyard Rioja Garnacha 2015

9.4

Red cherry, strawberry, plum, fresh herbs, balsamic, and hint of lavender fills an aromatic and deep nose. Soft juicy entry with flavors mimic the nose but lightly candied. Medium to full body that’s beautifully textured. Bright acidity and polished tannins.

This is in great contrast to Alto Moncayo, showing off PN-like elegance. Still packing a punch though. Need to find couple of bottles to cellar.

Campo de Borja

Alto Moncayo Garnacha 2019

This is great, and a good value at $50. Complex nose with everything from balsamic vinegar to charred meat. Full, viscous on palate. An interesting, well made wine, that easily accommodates the ABV of 16%. — 2 months ago

Paso Robles Grenache 2018

A totally different rendition of Grenache than the Alto Moncayo.

Lovely fresh red fruits taking the lead over dark berry fruits. A vibrant palate gains a bit weight on the medium body over time, with vivid acidity. Smooth cinnamon filled lightly sweet tannins.

Should have tasted this before the Alto Moncayo.
