Yayn Grand Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

Waldman and Sons Wine Cellar Yayn Grand Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2017, Galilee, Israel

#KosherWineSunday

Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim. Pretty color.

Nose of blueberries, blackberries, black cherries, black plums, light oak, licorice, chocolates, light earth, spices, light alcohol and tobacco.

Medium plus in body with medium acidity.

Dry on the palate with black currants, plums, cooked cherries, coffee, spices, oak, licorice, dark chocolates and peppercorn.

Tangy finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.

This is a very enjoyable Cabernet Sauvignon from israel. Soft, elegant and nicely balanced. Feels like a new world Cabernet with a Bordeaux twist.

Spicy, and entertaining by itself. The tangy finish makes it interesting. Showing nice complexity with a nice mouthfeel.

Needed 2 hours to open up properly, show the tannins, and balance itself out.

Would be nice to revisit it in 3 years and see how it evolves.

A good food wine that will pair nicely with game meats or lamb. I paired it with a French Gorgonzola cheese.

Aged for 36 months in oak barrels. Kosher and not Mevushal. A small production of only 5,500 bottles.

14.5% alcohol by volume.

91 points.

$75.

Vieilles Vignes de Gervans Crozes-Hermitage Syrah 2019

N: Olive, a bit gamey, very dark berried, but light, forest, souis-bois, minerals. B. Pepper.
P: So well knit and alive, no heaviness, Granitic, small red/black berries. The man has a wonderful touch with Syrah.
Deliciously dry w just a touch of bitter finish…nice. Blackness, but not dense.
Lingers delicately. A great match for non-sauced proteins.30mins out and tannins poking their heads up. The “ color” on your(my) palate doesn’t veer into the red fruited. I dig. Game, olive, repeat.
I’ll have to be be patient with the others🤞

Budeshuri Saperavi Qvevri

Budeshuri saferavi was described for the first time in Ivrispira villages in 1895. S. by Kvarian.
It is well studied in Georgian scientific literature.
Folk medicine used it and medicines made from it to treat wounds and lung diseases.

grapes
The berries are light pink at the beginning of ripening, and darken as they mature, but still remain pink. The juice is pale pink. It fully ripens from the second half of September. The seeds are oval, with a thin skin. Small pods. The grains have a pleasant taste and a gentle, characteristic aroma. The sugar content of the juice varies from 16% to 20%, and the acidity from 4‰ to 7‰.

Characterization of wine
The grapes and wine of Kakheti, Kartli, West Georgia and Meskheti differ sharply, but all of them are characterized by soft tones of dried black plums, cherries, blackberries, blueberries and spices.

Compatibility with food
Kakhuri (Khveri) Budeshuri is recommended with veal, poultry, game.
Budeshuri of Kartli (for example, "Genis" company) is lighter and the area of its suitable dishes is wider.

Puech Noble Coteaux du Languedoc Syrah Blend 2017

Beautiful northern Rhône style in Languedoc. Deep purple hues with powerful game / meat scents and iron. Herbaceous, dried thyme, pepper, some ripened raspberry too. Medium body, strong tannins, medium acids.

Made out of site named “Puech Noble.” Located on a small plateau, the ground is covered with ‘galets roulés’ - rounded stones - Very similar to those found in the parts of nearby Chateauneuf-du-Pape. At 150m higher than most of Chateauneuf, so is significantly cooler and offers a fresher character.

Adn de Meunieur Brut Nature Champagne Pinot Meunier

I just love this producer. Every single one of these wines are brilliant, sharp, and laser focused. Really nice effervescence and soft, tiny bubbles. The nose is immaculate with floral accents immediately. Red currants and nectarines along with hot buttered brioche fresh out of the oven. As the wine warms, the red fruit aromas really begin to shine through.

Natural, organic, biodynamic and it shows. A superbly crafted wine that truly speaks of the terroir and the winemaker. Another one of these Meunier Masters that’s truly changing the game. 100% Pinot Meunier from 40 year old vines in Festigny. A combination of the 2016 and 2017 vintages with no added dosage for purity and clarity.

Joy in the mouth with insane acidity and balance. This always takes a little time to really open up but when it does you’ll find apple cinnamon bread and red apples. Just a small touch of cherry and cream along with lemons. For an “entry level” bottle this really cannot be beat. But as many of these as you can, just leave me some too.

Terroir? I'm part of It. Veneto Red Blend

Bought at Veraison Wines. Lovely, smooth, semi-dry medium-to-full-bodied red. A tiny amount of spice, a small amount of smoke but very subtle. Dark, tobacco notes and general well roundedness. — 2 years ago

9.2

What better way to watch the Dutchies' opening game in Qatar with Canet Alternative. Owned by Dutch family Lemstra-blake, they have a small plot that yields just two barrels and results in an elegant mineral driven wine in the style of Burgundy — 2 years ago

Château de Merande

La Belle Romaine Red Blend

2020 vintage, cepage is 100% Mondeuse. This is a particular grape variety to the Haute Savoie around Annecy. Bio et biodynamique. Alcohol 12% - ~€17 at bottle shop.
This is also typical of the new wave of wines in France, organic (often also natural) small batch wines made from relatively unknown grapes, or, known grapes in atypical regions. This is the French Revolution revisited in the wine world. Good wine from traditional French regions like Bordeaux and Burgundy are priced out of reach of every day drinkers, and most likely, winemaking opportunities in these regions are similarly inaccessible to all but the most privileged in the winemaking community.
Wines like this are a harbinger of change in the French wine community, as are the Parisian wine bars who serve them.
A textured spicy and punchy red, with good acid and medium body. Excellent with game, pate de compagne and funky Savoie cheeses. Merci!
