Slightly brighter and more ruby garnet appearance . Narrow garnet rim . This has more crunchy , cherry fruit focus , with some chalky , dried flowers , wet stone hints . On the palate this mineral note is also present but with strawberry and red cherry , a bit more structure , tannins a little more present , but still with good refreshing acidity . Lightly mineral , cherry tinged finish . Pretty decent length and freshness , though the Malconsorts does appear to have more layers . This is slightly rustic , less polished in comparison with the Malconsorts, a little more nervy and edgy . Pretty young still , I would give this a bit more time, another 3-5 years or so , and then should drink well over the following 5-10 years . — 17 days ago

Bright ruby garnet with quite narrow garnet rim . Quite closed at first with mineral , cassis , sous bois , cigar box , touch of smoke . On the palate very intense with lots of cigar box tinged cassis , blackberry , cedar , coffee. Gritty but integrated tannins , fresh acidity . Very long and complex on the finish . This is still young but is starting to show what it can do , perfectly balanced and enormously long . Precise and for Las Cases very elegant . Now and for the next 10-15 years . — 2 years ago

Medium deep ruby garnet , with quite narrow garnet rim . This is quite closed at first , with some dusty , mineral , seaside hints . Cassis , cedar , blackberry , charcoal and a touch of toasty oak . On the palate this is again quite four square and serious , dusty blackberry , cassis, cedar , grafite . Quite linear in style , fresh acidity and quite fine but noticable tannin . A lightly saline , grafite tinged medium length finish . This is drinking well at the moment , quite classic in style but with enough polish and mid palate . Will probably continue to show well over the next 5-10 years . — 7 months ago

Medium garnet , slightly less intense than the 2002 , quite narrow terracotta rim . Quite a lot of dried spice , cinnamon , clove , with dried meats , porcini . Lighter fruits than the 2002, more of the red cherry , strawberry , raspberry noticable on other vintages. Not as dense as the 2002 but still enough fruit on the palate . Porcini , anise and black tea on the finish . Quite dense still , fills out well with good length — a year ago

Deep almost opaque ruby , narrow ruby rim . Quite closed and mineral at first , cassis , dark richer rounder fruits , blackberry and dark cherry . Richer more dense darker fruits on the palate , cassis , blackberry , with quite a mineral , grafite , earthy undertone . Rounded but high gritty tannins , good balanced refreshing acidity . Quite a big powerful wine but the alcohol is well integrated . Good length , with a touch of grafite and spice on the saline tinged finish. This should be given time , another 10 years preferably , and will show well for a further 10-15. — 2 years ago

I wanted something nice tonight. This was perfect. Winemaker Kurt Venge offers a Burgundian style to Sonoma. Red fruits and plush velvet finish. Definitely worth seeking out this off the beaten path wine. — 6 years ago

Like a Burgh - no difference. Franken Pinot (FP). Schlepped this all the way from this super remote winery my 2nd bottle. Stumbled onto this wine because Jancis Robinson recommended this (after all she used to be the Sommelier of the Queen of England). Suitcase import. 13.5% world class - really. Roses on the nose. In the glass faint cherries, blackberries, elderberry (just bought a plant we used to make jam), red currants. Back palate hard to define Za'atar (the plant) - Screw Cap (a strange choice for such quality juice). I know this wine is inaccessible for most folks on this website - sorry. But Franken is a very interesting wine region. The soil is by the way limestone - so it is classic for Pinot. I walked the vineyards - very off the beaten path - even for Germany. — 10 months ago

On the palate this is quite restrained and elegant , with a mix of red and dark fruits , cassis , blueberry , red currant , touch of menthol also . Good refreshing acidity and slightly gritty tannins , good length with grafite and tobacco stained finish . This is showing well and is probably at peak at the moment , no rush as it will stay here for another 8-10 years or so . — a year ago
