Old Vine Barossa Valley Grenache 2016

MICHAEL COOPER DipWSET
9.0

Deep ruby color. Heady, rich and almost meaty aromas. On the nose and the palate it seems almost more reminiscent of a Shiraz rather than a #Grenache — 3 years ago

Sceales Vineyard Old Vine Grenache

Seventy-five plus year vines make me happy. Plenty of acidity balanced by lean, yet round, tannins. Savory raspberries and cherries with rhubarb and a little bay leaf. Yum! — 4 years ago

Brini Estate

Old Bush Vine Single Vineyard McLaren Vale Grenache 2015

On opening an oaky honied note which settled down. A sweet and savoury palate showing spicy berries and ripe cherries - perfect with homemade pizza. Not a typical varietal Grenache but a good midweek dry red just the same. From a producer new to me recommended by the Sommelier at the Downs Club. The following night a meaty note - much more savoury than fruit driven - quite delicious. Don’t normally have bottles only 5 weeks apart but there you go. Had a bottle on 25th November 2022. Typical raspberry notes on nose and palate - a nice wine. — 2 years ago

Juxtaposed Old Vine Grenache

Absolutely outstanding QPR and noticeably better than the 2019. Deep and lushly fruited, great fruit density, silky tannin that brings a gentle grip. — 3 years ago

Gratitude Vinegrove Vineyard Old Vine Grenache 2018

My last Gratitude, so now I’m bitter🥴

In the spring of 2018, our Winemaker, Jordan Fiorentini, headed Down Under to work a harvest in Barossa Valley, Australia with one of Bill Armstrong’s good wine buddies, Michael Twelftree of Two Hands Wines. During Jordan’s visit, the two bonded over their love of Grenache, and thus, worked together to create a wine from some stunning 70-year-old Grenache vines in the area. The 50% whole cluster fermentation took place in Barossa, but the resulting wine made its way back to Paso Robles to do its barrel-aging and bottling in our winery. This collaboration between two countries is the perfect way to say thank you to doctors, nurses, & volunteers who serve on the front lines during this global pandemic.

Ode to Lulu California Old Vine Rosé Blend

13.5% ABV Salute to Lulu Peyraud of Domaine Tempier in France. Lulu’s father owned the vineyard , and she along with her husband took it over. Sadly we lost her in October 2020 at the age of 102 y/o. This is a blend of old vine Mataro and Grenache. Light salmon color, watermelon initially , later apple. Very nice! — 3 years ago

About as good as grenache gets. Bright sour cherries followed by anise and black tea. Savory and balanced. — 3 years ago
