2006 | Riesling (Auslese)
Selbach-Oster; Zeltinger Sonnenuhr 'Rotlay'
Mosel; Zeltingen-Rachtig, Germany
APN 2 606 319 06 07
(93-95; drink 2016-36)
"Rotlay, a South facing parcel, is the single best parcel within the Sonnenuhr vineyard. Rotlay holds vines between 90-100 years old. The position of this vineyard is important as it sits in a "hot spot" between the cliff and river and is the site where it's typical for botrytis to form each year. There's approximately 1350 bottles produced from 1 neutral barrel (Fuder) for both fermentation and aging." — 2 years ago
Feels like a heavy petrolic Spatlese. 8% — 6 months ago
Green apples, slight honey and petrol. There is a sweetness to the acidity. It’s delicate. There is a slight wet creek rock meets little white wild flowers taste to it. I feel like I should be by a gently flowing river in spring that you would find in a Disney movie… maybe sitting in a canoe. I would pair this with a Pudelpointer, a water fowl retrieving dog from Germany. Both wine and dog are friendly, calm, and disciplined. — 2 years ago
