Serralunga d'Alba Barolo Nebbiolo 2020

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of four days. Best of Day 4. The 2020 Classico pours a beautiful garnet color with a transparent core; medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of tart and ripe red fruits: strawberries, cherry lozenges, pink roses, tar, talcum powder and dry earth. On the palate, the wine is bone dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose though the fruit comes across more ripe than tart. The finish is long and saline. This is an elegant, sexy Barolo with sneaky power that’s only revealed with enormous exposure to air at this stage. Drink now with patience and through 2040. — 11 days ago

Tough and compact. Just ripe crunchy strawberries and soaring complex aromatics. One to lay away, but massive potential. — 3 days ago

Not modern. This is about as traditional as they come. Long macerations and aged in Slavonian botti grandi.

That is how it is made but not how it tastes. Very light modern barollo not one that needs 10 to 15 years to be appreciated.

I’m not sure what you mean by that. The “light” aspect you describe is the style of G. Mascarello and they need forever to flesh out. In a year like 2019, they will need forever, forever. Again, nothing modern about it. Not the winemaking. Not the style.

Castiglione Barolo Nebbiolo 2019

2019 vintage. Medium heavy bod. Tar, earth, dark cherry in the nose. High acidity/tannins painfully evident and only tackling this because some greedy human insisted. Visited easily 15 years too early. Mostly structural currently while the dark fruit tumblers slowly click into place. 10.30.24 — 10 days ago

@David T Haven't had enough of the 2020's to rate the vintage. Still trying to process the 2019's. Do enjoy this producer tho.

Cascina Francia Barolo Nebbiolo 2009

Medium ruby centre with wide light garnet rim . This is a bit less fruit driven than I remember the last time I had this , 3 years ago or so . Nice spiced red cherry , blackcurrant , porcini , dried spices, touch smoky , dried rose and a balsamic hint . On the palate sweet red cherry , balsamic tinged blackberry , herbal and smoked black tea notes . This has very fine , velvety sweet tannins , and still quite good acidity , just balanced alcohol, I would drink this on the cooler side . The finish is medium length and with a spiced , liquorice note . This is firmly in its prime drinking window , showing some development whilst maintaining good density and ripe fruit on the palate . Drink now and over the next 5 -8 years or so . Not the most complex Cascina Francia , but incredibly enjoyable to drink now . — 18 days ago

Sito Moresco Langhe Nebbiolo Blend 2017

Had a dinner with my close friend. This is a gift from a restaurant to honor my loyalty to them. I tried this wine for other vintage and i'll review it once again for 2017.

On nose its straight Roses parfume, wild respberries, tar, and licorice

On palate, i sense a complex Spices, high acidity, violets, cherries, medium bodied with sharp intentisity on mid palate. This is still my favourite to taste barolo for some cheese pairing. Cheers everyone!

Albe Barolo Nebbiolo 2017

Red fruit and thyme nose. Raspberry (and leaf) roasted vegetables (in a good way) white pepper with tannins at the edges. Opens nicely. Great pairing with lamb pasta. TBL — 2 days ago

Utterly magnificent.. stunningly good and near perfect. Hits all my buttons and is my favorite wine. Let decant about 90 minutes. Smooth as silk. Bursting fruit mixed beautifully with forest and truffle like earthiness. — 12 days ago

Comes in handy when wanting to try a wine before opening another bottle. It’s also fun to share samples with friends. If you end up opening, oh well. That’s what’s fun.

Ok no matter what you do - needling a wine changes it - in particular Rieslings loose their ethereal elegance. Reds hold up better. But putting the wine back for long term storage is just BS. Plus the carriages are stupid expensive so for some time i used off label ones and was able to get rid of the plastic with some soaking in organic solvents and then was able to use any cartridge. There are even some contraptions out there were you could attach a larger Argon tank to the Coravin which I have seen in wine stores. These will last forever! But i am a Chemist by training so i just build my own Argon line with two spouts and a Mega Argon tank under the stove which will last a year.
