Palate : elegant weight. Rich. Sleek.

Les Pluchots Volnay Pinot Noir 2017

Still a baby. Tastes primary. Big, juicy Volnay. With 6 hours of air, a more refined, minerally, spicy wine emerges. — 2 years ago

This showed beautifully. Notes of tea and earth with nice minerality. Most 2013s are drinking well now. — 3 years ago

En Poillange Saint Romain Chardonnay 2019

9.4

Nose is steely, mineral and refined. Apple skins, lime zest. Very very mineral as St. Romain tends to be. Palate is terrific. Juicy, super pure and very concentrated with outstanding clarity and freshness. Best version yet. Lovely balance. Very complex and so delicious. This is a great wine. So chewy on the finish. Green fruits all the way. — 4 years ago

Clos Des Chenes Volnay 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2017

9.5

Been a few years and this is drinking so well now but no rush at all. Nose is sour cherry and mid season cherry and lovely earthy minerals. Very fragrant and a hint of confection. Palate is sleek and juicy and very refined. It is a bit short but air will lengthen it I think. Juicy and elegant airy lovely purity and balance. Awesome depth and grainy, elegant tannins. Needs air to go higher. Let’s see what happens.

9.4 to 9.5 overnight. Juicy and elegant and so finessed.

Les Rugiens Pommard 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2013

I’m on a roll with Côte de Beaune reds lately! This 13’ Rugiens was absolutely incredible. Still brimming with youthful energy - it demanded patience, taking three hours to unfurl, but when it did, what unfolded was a wine of breathtaking purity, intensity, and drive. Dark cherries layered with musky florals and a whisper of spice mingled with a strikingly mineral core. It grew in stature across the palate, building to a finish that was both super long and fine, leaving a resonant, stony echo. Another profound lesson in weightless intensity! — 9 months ago

Clos de la Cave Volnay Pinot Noir 2013

Really nice villages Volnay. You can taste the stem inclusion here. Lifted aromatics, red fruits. Stems add an herbal element on the palate. 2013s continue to show well. — 3 years ago

Volnay Champans 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2019

Nose has confectionary up the wazoo. Cherries dropped in a vat of cherry dust. Lovely stoney background and serious lift. Really powdery and refined. Sure it will open more. Palate is lush, sweet and decadent. Loads of tiny berry sweet cherry fruit and likely definition and clarity. Right as to be expected and will improve with air. Very fresh with extremely fine tannins and length. Great acidity. This is a 20+ year wine no doubt. — 3 years ago
