Gentle nose of blackberry, raspberry, cassis, mocha, steeped red tea, leather, and hint of rusty iron. Medium to full body. Plush and warm on the palate with good acidic structure. Gripping tannins have started to mellow.
‘12 started a great run of excellent Napa vintages from the last decade. This just entered its drinking window and will continue to evolve over the next 8-10 year. — 7 months ago
Very cool to try this vintage. The color has gone to a very rusty red amber and almost a brown rim. (bummer you can’t upload more than one photo) Olive and earth on the nose. Very savory V8 notes of tomato, tomato bisque , black pepper. The palate still has great acidity, very rounded, just a nice lingering finish and almost feels high in heat even though this sits at 12.5% — 3 years ago
Rusty red color. Swirling released dried flower, mulch, black cherry and leather notes. Mushroom, floral and red fruits with silky tannins in the palate. Stunning old world Bordeaux. — 5 years ago
More aged wine. Seems to be tonight’s theme. This France meets Italy in the blend. Label says it was $12. Not sure where I got it though. Dark maroon with a rusty edge. Aromas are the dust, smoke and old book smells of older Cab/Merlot. Maybe a slight whiff of ball-point pen ink. Flavors are also aged/oxidized. But just slightly. Still has fresh berry-cherry vibes. Bittersweet with a hint of charred meats or tar. This is a fun blend that aged well and has an elegance making it well worth the $12 it cost me. — 2 years ago
Hangin with Daddy, Rusty, and Trey. Gators bout to beat UCF. — 3 years ago
Lovely purity of berry compote along with an underlying ferrous, rusty nail type iron mineral character. With time in the glass there’s also some very attractive almond paste or pie crust notes, dried cranberry and yoghurt covered raisins.
In the mouth it’s incredibly approachable with fine grained tannins that are very well interpreted into the red currant and cranberry fruit. It’s refreshing, approachable and very food friendly as the acidity seems to be perfectly ripe in this vintage. Don’t think I’ve tasted a better vintage of this in the past 5 years or so. As with most Italians, food will elevate this. 👌🏽 — 5 years ago
