Bin 169 Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

Deep Ruby , narrow ruby pink rim . Mint , cassis , blackberry , eucalyptus. On the palate lots of dark cassis , spiced blackberry, dark cherry . High quite gritty tannin , balanced acidity . Medium length , chocolate tinged finish . This is quite austere and closed at present in comparison to the other wines in this line up , the tannins need will need more time than the Bin 389 to round out . This is also less juicy with drier tannin than the Bin 389. With more time in the glass this started to show a more nuanced , mineral and tobacco side to it . This improve over a further 10 -12 years or so and last well a further 10 — a month ago

Best's

Bin No 0 Great Western Shiraz 2009

Bin 0 has been made continuously since the 1890’s and was regarded as the premium Shiraz from Bests until they introduced the Thomson Family Shiraz (first made in 1992). A Thomson Family Shiraz was not produced in 2009 so the best Shiraz from the estate went into this wine. The colour was a very dense Ruby. Dusty dried plums on the nose together with black pepper and spices. The palate has latent energy - self contained power, yet to reveal all of itself but remains opulent. Amazing how good this wine is considering the late heatwave conditions in this vintage in the Grampians. Possibly saved by the inclusion of old vine material from the 1860s which would normally go into the Thomson Family Shiraz. A great wine, still with a long future, easily through to the end of this decade. My first of 3. Next in a few years 2027? — a month ago

Bin 144 Yattarna Chardonnay 2016

Medium lemon colour . Slightly toasty , lemon oil , peach , creamy nose , white flower nose , but quite fresh and detailed . On the palate quite creamy with lemon , apricot , yellow stone fruit , nice balanced acidity and freshness , balanced alcohol , good intensity and length . Lovely now and over the next decade . This comes across as more elegant and refined than I had imagined , but with no lack of intensity — a month ago

Bin 28 Shiraz 2021

New vintage of bin 28. Used to be the Kalimna vineyard. Dark, dense, and powerful fruit. Cassis and some spice notes. Just a delicious wine, almost chewy. Screams for a steak dinner pairing. Good value, too. — a month ago

Bin 150 Marananga Barossa Valley Shiraz 2010

The first vintage of Bin 150 was 2008 so this 2010 was probably the best to that point. Very dark Ruby in colour - impenetrable. The nose has blood plum and blackberry with mocha and cocoa aromas. The palate is rich, dense and full bodied. Opulent with blackberry and dark chocolate. Built to last for decades. A very Barossa Penfolds Shiraz. — 22 days ago

RWT BIN 798 Barossa Valley Shiraz 2018

Deep ruby , thin ruby rim . More discreet on the nose than the explosive Grange . More blackberry , dark plum , with a slight toasty note . Dark blackberry , cassis, red plum , good acidity and medium bodied , slightly more spiced palate . Balanced acidity and quite suave polished medium tannins . Just a hint of warmth on the good length finish . Compared to the Grange this comes across as slightly lighter in body and intensity with less of the Grange’s mineral complexity. Again requires time , but with food drank well , better in 5-10 years and will last well a further 10-15 . — a month ago
