Gorgeous nose of stoniness, sour cherry, herbs, limestone and some mid season ripe cherry. Really potent fruit aromas just jump out of the glass. Terrific stony and grippy Pommard structure. Really dominated by structure out of the gates. But it’s all there. Some deep cherry licorice after some air. On the nose and palate. I love this vineyard and Girard’s interpretation of it. Generous and enveloping nose with gorgeous mid season cherry, spice, seaweed paper, tweed jacket and macerated mid to late season cherries. Really provocative and deep aromas. Palate is classic young Fichots. A wall of tannin and gorgeous dark fruits that echoe but are currently 90% covered by tannins. So dense and chewy with just awesome inner mouth aromas and dark black and blue fruits and. sinewy, foresty vibe that is so intriguing. This wine needs air but is shaping up to be a classic Fichots. Nose opening up with dark cranberry, spice, forest floor and more. The Fichots aromatic complexity is really here in spades. I love this wine. Loosening up and getting so juicy. So pure. Really nice inner mouth aromas and terrific energy and freshness. Awesome on day 2. Nose is brambly and nuanced. Palate is out of this world. Dense and opulent fruit. So fresh. Bursting. Sweet and tart. 9.4 to 9.5 overnight. — 4 months ago

Such a classic Les Vergelesses nose. Brambly, bright and damson all at the same time with gorgeous earthen dampness. Big cherry, cranberry, cranberry bog and spice. Really compelling spice and so much depth. Palate is stunning. Gorgeous, tensile mid season and black cherry fruit with wonderful clarity and precision. Some wild mint on the nose now. Great concentration and density. Very sappy. Perfect balance and so pure. Finish is elegant with gorgeously ripe tannins. What a vintage 23 is at Girard. The nose gets some nice Twizzler action after some air and my goodness the fruit is just transcendent. After two hours the nose is gorgeous with moss, spice and wet earth. Juicy palate and just gorgeous fruit. Fresh and energetic. Wonderful. — 4 months ago

This is a superstar wine in 22 and now 23. They also could not be more different. Stunning nose of ripe mid to late season cherry and a hit of kirsch. Stunning fruit clarity. Gorgeous stoniness and elegant herbs. Terrific tiny berry fruit intensity. Elite finesse and shows the silkiness of this brilliant site. The tannins are stoney and big but ripe and sweet. This doesn’t have the decadence of the 2022. Great freshness and has that chord progression fruit that is a signature of 2023. Unreal silkiness. Gorgeous wine but will be better with a few more hours of air. Oh it’s getting opulent like this site does and wow the energy is off the charts. Tannins melting into fruit. After 5-6 hours this is just insane. The energy of 23 and the opulence of 22. Genius!

An amazing vintage here. Nose is a bit funky out of the gates but wow once it gets going it’s all red cherries, sour cherries, and wild herbs. So so good. Really lifted. Palate is mega closed but my goodness rhys is super precise and focused. Like a laser. Unreal freshness and acidity and barely ripe sour cherry and early season cherry fruit. Insane velvety and sour/sweet tannins. Wine as sweet tart. This needs air. It’s got the bones but I will check back in an hour or two. Oh this is getting better but it’s gonna be slow. Angular and dense but so balanced. That Rhini structure abounds. — 4 months ago

I love what Girard does with this cuvée. Gorgeous nose of sour cherries, wet moss, flowers and mid season perfectly ripe cherries. Little earthy, feral vibe as well on the nose. So Savigny. Palate feels so alive and has terrific fruit and texture. Sweet, silky, gritty and feral all at the same time and has that stunning balance that is a signature of the 23’s from Girard. The best vintage here since 19. So fresh and sappy with great acids and remarkably sweet and velvety tannins. Let’s see what air does but man this is good on the pop and pour. Long, chewy finish. The energy here is top notch. Love the mid palate opulence here. — 4 months ago

Nose is ripe with late season red cherries. Spice, earth. Wet earth and tweed jacket. Really spectacular fruit on the nose. Almost a cola like intensity but it’s all Burg fruit. Terrific aromas. Really nice layered spices beyond that. Almost middle eastern. Juicy and so concentrated with such sappy and pure fruit. Man what amazing fruit here. So long and slippery. Really open now but will develop. More 22’s I taste more I have to pat myself on the back for making the call these would be open when they landed. Not one closed 22 so far. Always sultry, always glorious. Stanky late season cherry fruit, hint of barnyard funk that only adds allure. Palate is so full of fruit it’s ridiculous. Juicy and sleek, with unreal purity and freshness. 22 nails that freshness with decadence so well. Very pure and mineral. Wonderful tannins that suggest this is built for the long haul. Just one of the best wines in the world. Nose is legend. The best soppy, soaked, dense, clear mid to late season red and black cherries of all time. Then comes the spice. And more spice. And more. This nose is perfect. It’s a life affirming perfume. On days that are this bad, a wine like this makes one momentarily forget the horrors going on outside our windows. The nose is a 10. It’s that simple. The palate is young but amazing. Grapey, concentrated red cherry fruit and such freshness, nimbleness and insane purity. Unreal inner mouth aromas. The decadence of 2022 is here but it’s also dialed back because this is Brisset. Good grip and acid and such sweetness. This is hedonistic but also cerebral in that the acids wash one’s palate on the finish and the finish is mostly mineral and limestone. So juicy and dense but also lithe. This is perfection. 10.0. It’s closed down now after a few hours. But the finish is just insanely long. . — 2 months ago

Big, brambly nose with lots of red cherries, mid season sour cherries, earth and mineral. Really clean and evocative. Palate is juicy and so precise. Very clean and a lovely mineral/fruit wash on the finish. Great depth, freshness and terrific concentration. Not elegant but this wine never is. It has such impact for little $$. Nice, ripe tannins and serious structure. This is always best at 5 years old. — 5 months ago
