The longevity this wine is capable of is shocking. The color hardly looks half its age, with a blooming nose that screams a much younger, softened cab of yesteryear. After half an hour open there’s nose of blueberry and butterscotch, vanilla and spicy peppery notes still persist! Over time a mustiness emerged, along with notes of wet wood, maybe even a little mustard! There’s even still a zippy, lingering acidity on the palate that focuses towards the tip of the tongue, either flavors of ripe strawberry, blueberry, plum and some meaty savory subtle notes, but primarily jammy fruit, with a palate that develops some woody cedar and forest floor notes and as it becomes further oxygenated. Traditional Bordeaux-Style blend. Very dark ruby color with slight hints of purple. Savory aromas of earth, baking spices, herbs and black cherries. Ripe plum and black cherry flavors with additional hints of baking spices, tobacco and dried herbs. Pleasant creamy vanilla oak note on the long finish. Dusty tannins and well balanced. Opulent, complex and still quite fresh for a ten year old wine. — a month ago

From magnum. This was the first vintage of Patz & Hall “Alder Springs Vineyard” Chardonnay. At the point of blending a flicker of original youthfulness with otherwise fully matured Chardonnay flavors. This is why we drink older wines. Rich, complex spice and toast, notes of tangerine, beeswax, dried apple, caramel, wildflower, sea breeze, exotic perfume, kiwi, crushed rock. A moderate yellow color. I was there when the grapes were picked. Short of help, we all pitched in to harvest. A miracle. — a month ago
