2019 vintage. Picked up at Trader Joe’s-La Mesa, CA. $14.99. Popped and poured without any down time. This came out swinging. Great, expressive nose of the usuals-like tar, rose petals and slightly tart cherry-with a brushy, decaying leaves undercurrent. Medium body. Lacking the unbridled power of the top Barolo efforts on the back end but it was still a 25+ seconds finish with a dusting of cracked black pepper regardless. Expected a lot less and received much more. Very pleasant balance of fruit and tannins currently without any particular component/moment stealing the show. Not to be dismissed, intro and mid-palates amply represented. Will go back this week for more. 14% ABV. 1.23.24. — 10 months ago

Winner Winner Chicken Dinner! outstanding effort, Bordeaux blend w/savage unbridled personality. Black & red fruit, espresso bean, cassis, but also herbaceous & forest, a real wild streak. Suave, finely grained tannins, regal bearing, med+ body, rich fruit, mocha & dried herbs on palate. Showed young for vintage — 3 years ago

1995 vintage. Great aging cork in good shape. Decanted and tasted immediately, after 30 mins and after 2 hours. Decent amount of sed. Slight brickish color. Initially and generally throughout, reticent nose and flavors. Very tightly wound overall. Eventually able to coax a small amount of black olive out of the nose along with minerals for days. Some dark cherry and plum allied with baking chocolate in the transition from mid-palate to finish. It was tough sledding in the frontal palate. Super dry with summer earth/dirt at the start. Obvious class but never really flashed more than a few cards to play. Perhaps a different bottle shows a little more love? Producer is always on the leaner side so unbridled optimism on that front is likely wasted energy. 10.25.23. — a year ago

The first sip is like a crystal explosion, shattering into shards of pure flowers, lime, calcite rocks and smoked fruit candy. Smoked plum, apricot blossom, muskmelon, citrus peel and an electric zing of minerals on the palate. The tense delight of lemon candy. Now at the seven year mark, the 2013 Jamet Cote Rotie is absolutely singing in its unbridled elegance. Silky and soft upon entry, the 2013 Jamet shows a pillowy effect as this artfully glides across the mid-palate. The lighter Provencale herb and white pepper tones meld with ripe raspberry and Bing cherry flavors. Bright, showing an intense sense of verve and tension, the long finish truly satisfies. While delightful at this stage, the 2013 Jamet Cote Rotie will have another decade or more ahead of it. This is truly one of the wines of the vintage. Drink 2020-2033- 95 — 5 years ago

I love Hermitage Blanc. Old, young or middle aged I love it. So unique and I also like how polarizing White Rhone is amongst wine lovers.

Nose is intense Marsanne in all it’s unbridled glory. That almost feral, medicinal minerality. It’s so high toned and pierces one’s nostril. Yellow fruits galore but angles. Maybe they will get more gras as it airs. Likely. Palate is so intense. Unctuous and intense but floats as it’s so elegant. Great concentration and mineral sweetness and just insane freshness from the granite soils. This reminds me of Puligny Referts today. It’s so long and regal. Amazing fruit presence. 👅Sweet red & dark fruits with smoke & earth. Fresh. Solid acidity. Mellow tannins. Full bodied but lithe. Drinking well 🙌

👃Smoky, musky, horsey with red/dark fruit & kirsch
👅Cranberry/raspberry, smoke, bacon, iron, spice, & stones
Hitting all of the notes on DAY 7 but I preferred the unbridled 🐎 intensity of DAY 1

-1st bottle 4 years ago was closed hard.

-Lots of Old World character from this Christophe Baron wine that is part of the Cayuse stable
-This was the first vintage of Sur Echalas Grenache so it will be interesting to see the trail it blazes with more bottle age🍷
