The 2005 Bienvenue-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru came from an original bottle, i.e., not reconditioned at the Domaine due to premox problems. It has a rich and concentrated bouquet, with hints of wild honey intermixed with white flowers and broom. It shows a wonderful definition, a hint of candy floss emerging with aeration. The palate is very well-balanced with great poise, a silver thread of acidity and a dash of white pepper and crustacea towards the sustained finish. Outstanding. Tasted at Clarette in London. Wonderfully steely and austere. A tad young but this wine’s reserved nature just made its mineral and finish more interesting to me. Apple and some green fruit. Paired with an eight course French seafood meal this wine was the perfect one to be at the wheel. Fantastic! — 3 months ago

Now this was a Bourgogne that over-performed! Loved the energy here. Aromas of flint, apples, lemons, and some flowers. Intense and focused on the palate, with a surprisingly long finish. Seemed to get weightier and chalkier with air, but alas it was all gone too soon. Really good stuff and one to revisit. — 4 months ago
