This wine has a gorgeously golden hue. 👁️

On the nose 👃🏻 and palate 👄 are pronounced notes of ripe peach, nectarine, apricot, papaya, white blossom, mandarin pith, kumquat, gardenia, honeysuckle, wet slate, petrol, lanolin, honey, smoke, beeswax, saline, saffron, and flint.

This wine is dry with racy acidity, a textured and mouth-filling quality, and complexity for days. As this wine warms in the glass, we keep uncovering layers! The finish lingers. This wine hits the spot! 🎯

Yet we have no doubt it has runway to age gaining more dried fruit characteristics and added complexity.

Always fun to explore an indigenous varietal from Spain - especially when Alvaro Palacios is involved. I found this Mencia wine to be medium bodied with good acidity and structured tannins that were present in this young wine but not obnoxiously so. The fruit is darker dried red fruit that proved to be a good compliment with grilled shishito peppers. It was so nice to dive into a new aspect of Spain’s wine history. — 23 days ago

Any time I open a Riesling or GV from a reputable producer, I wonder why I don’t open them more often.

Great vintage, great Austrian producer.

I really enjoy the differences between Alsatian Rieslings, German Rieslings and Austrian Rieslings, the latter normally being a bit more textural/full-bodied (and higher in ABV at 13%, compared to the typical 8-10% range of the others). Pale yellow in the glass. White peach and a sweet lemon/lemongrass type of aromatic. Ripe stone fruits (more peach but also apricot) and minerals/slate alongside a spine of acidity that isn’t sharp, but balanced. Tasty. — 22 days ago
