Baking spices, dried flowers, and leather on the nose. It might “only be” a Chianti Classico, but when when you have a quality producer, their whole range can shine and at 23years, this wine is in a great spot. Dried cherries and plums in the palate with some spice notes. Beautiful wine! — 4 years ago
Nose has ripe plum, dark chocolate covered cherry, ripe raspberry, wet leather, damp wood smoke with light alcohol/menthol trailing.
Palate has ripe black cherry, ripe plum, blackberry jam, fresh black currant, dried licorice, faint vanilla, dark roast coffee grounds, yet mild tannins persist. Long finish, very satisfying.
Decanted ~8H and more time is appreciated, although it's been improving nicely in our glasses. Paired to my homemade red sauce, campanelle pasta and local hot/sweet pork sausage, great match.

Tasted double blind. Ruby red core, medium viscosity, clean with developing vinosity, medium plus intensity, stewed black plums, black cherry and cranberry, red flowers, underbrush, myrtle, leather, clay, European oak; On the palate, dry, medium plus body, high acid and high tannin. Red and black fruit with cranberries. Savory underbrush and conditioned leather. This is killer, easily the best vintage of Monsanto CCR I’ve ever had. — 4 years ago
