Roagna

Dolcetto d'Alba 2018

Like no other Dolcetto I’ve tried. Loads of black cherry fruit yet still rustic. None of the dark ink notes I get in other top examples. Great balance and freshness. I’m still partial to San Fereolo but this may be my new #2 dolcetto. — 3 years ago

Krug

Grande Cuveé 167ÈME Édition Brut Champagne Blend

1st anniversary champagne and caviar. My first bottle of Krug and it was spot on. Light on its feet with more toasted brioche notes as it opened up. Can I drink another bottle now please? — 3 years ago

Dunn Vineyards

Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon 2006

1.5 hour decant(surprisingly just a little cloudy sediment). A prodigious medium dark garnet color with little signs of aging. On the nose: funky stewed meats, blackberry, smoke, plum, minty pepper, creme de cassis. Taste: KABOOM! Rich, silky, full body wine with blackberry, earth, cedar, wet gravel, menthol and a cassis pencil lead long finish with some ashy tannins. In its prime drinking window and this 13.8% alc wine should rock another 10 years. Cheers! — 3 years ago

Taittinger

Prestige Rosé Brut Pinot Noir Chardonnay Champagne

Prestige Rosé stands out for its intense hue whose secret lies in the fact that it is a blend, complex & costly to produce. The blend, 15% of the best Pinot Noir from Montagne de Reims & Les Riceys added to the final blend, giving this cuvée its unique color & intensity. The wine contains Chardonnay (30%) completing the blend bringing elegance to Taittinger’s signature style. Red fruit aromas with strawberry and cherry flavors, elegant, long finish ending with chalky minerality and slight yeasty notes. — 3 years ago

Blade and Bow Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey

Exceptionally balanced, especially for the price point. Toasted marshmallows, bananas foster, and winter spices. — 3 years ago

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

Nose of blueberry jam. Palate present maple syrup, blueberry complete with hints of espresso. Regal tannins play off bright acidity. Superb length on the finish, with a textbook sense of place. Another example that needs short-term cellaring. We may have under clubbed the score. — 3 years ago

Enfield Wine Co.

Citrine California Chardonnay 2018

One of my favorite accessible, all purpose Cali Chardonnays on the market right now. Summer night jasmine and faint vanilla, honeysuckle and lemon curd aromas. The subtlest hint of Chablis-like salinity. Light to medium body. Some white peach nectarine creeping in on the finish. Creamy - but more like 2% milk than butter. What it lacks in flavor complexity and finesse it makes up for with zest, precision and balance. Paired with weeknight-whatever’s-left-in-the-fridge carbonara. — 3 years ago
