Les Terrasses Velles Vinyes Priorat Grenache Blend 2021

Vintage 2021 | Either the wine is closed, either the smell is introverted. Berries, chocolate, cedar. Obviously still tannins, but good balance and nice bitters. Good example of old vines wine. — 8 days ago

Clos Mogador

Priorat Red Blend 2016

A dense bright ruby in colour. Initially vanilla/oak notes which blew off with time in decanter. Dense rich and brooding - not giving much aromatically. Tight and muscular. Behaves younger than 7 years. Made by the redoubtable Rene Barbier, one of the founders of the revitalised Priorat movement as shown in the excellent documentary “Dreaming of Wine”. Full bodied and flavoursome. Rich and herbal - predominantly ripe Garnacha grapes. Red and black fruits. Had a wonderful visit there last year with the family and an informative tour and tasting at Clos Mogador. I love the fact that they have kept their wines affordable unlike their Priorat colleagues Alvaro Palacios (L’Ermita) and Daphne Glorian (Clos Erasmus) whose wines are quite expensive. This Mogador is so not ready to drink! Needs time in the cellar. Disagree with Thomas Matthews Drinking window of 2019 to 2024. Personally I think this wine will cruise through to 2030. I will leave the last one for around another 4 years. — 2 years ago

Thanks Andrew. I’m a fan of the Priorat district and their wines. The whites from Clos Mogador (Nelin) are also fabulous. Not that far from Barcelona.

Descendientes de José Palacios

Villa de Corullon Bierzo Mencía 2022

Always fun to explore an indigenous varietal from Spain - especially when Alvaro Palacios is involved. I found this Mencia wine to be medium bodied with good acidity and structured tannins that were present in this young wine but not obnoxiously so. The fruit is darker dried red fruit that proved to be a good compliment with grilled shishito peppers. It was so nice to dive into a new aspect of Spain’s wine history. — 5 days ago

Conde de San Cristóbal Ribera del Duero Tempranillo Merlot

It’s the Crianza I was drinking. Expressive nose of red and dark (cherries, plums and blackberries), well handled oak and good acid — 2 years ago
