Rhini Blauer Spätburgunder 2021

An amazing vintage here. Nose is a bit funky out of the gates but wow once it gets going it’s all red cherries, sour cherries, and wild herbs. So so good. Really lifted. Palate is mega closed but my goodness rhys is super precise and focused. Like a laser. Unreal freshness and acidity and barely ripe sour cherry and early season cherry fruit. Insane velvety and sour/sweet tannins. Wine as sweet tart. This needs air. It’s got the bones but I will check back in an hour or two. Oh this is getting better but it’s gonna be slow. Angular and dense but so balanced. That Rhini structure abounds. — 6 days ago

Grapefruit and lime pith. White jasmine blossom. Delicious, baroque nose, somewhat lighter, tarter on the palate. — 8 months ago

Weiss & Grau Burgunder Weißburgunder Grauburgunder 2022

Very accessible orange wine without any hint of being overly “natural”. Crisp and the bit of skin contact gives it just enough body and texture to be interesting. — 9 months ago

Baden Blauer Spatburgunder 2016

Bright garnet color. Aromas of dark cherry, mushroom, tomato skin with a touch of barnyard funk. Pallet is full of ripe red fruit (cherry, cranberry , raspberry & plum) with notes of mushrooms, baking spices and minerals. A bit of smoke on the finish. Silky tannins. Medium bodied and bright. — 2 years ago

Jaspis Alte Reben Grauer Burgunder 2014

Wow. What a bizarre yet beautiful evolution.

Nose: white flowers. Age. Crazy. Dried apricot.

Palate: dense. Orange. Chewy.

Utterly singular.

I love this wine but I’ll admit it’s niche. Glorious confectionary nose. Clearly too young, as this wine really sings starting at 10, but whatever, I got too much wine to drink them all at the perfect time. Sweet wood, stone fruits and intense minerality. Some pollen as well on the nose. Such a complex nose. But in 5 years watch out! Palate is so elegant and rich but fresh from the minerals and not the acid which is merely solid. Really coats the tongue. So good. The finish is stone fruits, sweet wood and that rock licking feeling on your tongue. Just a killer Grau because it’s got that Laible magic. — 7 months ago

If Sour Patch Kids grew up and gave birth to a grapefruit, it would be this wine. Subtly sparkling with aromas of strawberry and flavors of grapefruit and red fruit candies with an almost sour acidity.
Super fun!!

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of several hours. The 2019 pours a deep garnet color with an opaque core; medium viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of tart and ripe red and black fruits: Montmorency cherry, plums, horse barn, purple and red flowers, crushed rocks and minerals. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium- tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium and laden with minerals. This is not faking the funk on a nasty dunk. Drink now through 2029. — 3 months ago
