Founded in 1982 by Koerner and Joan Rombauer and sits on a tree covered knoll overlooking the Napa Valley, with caves that extend for over a mile. Pale lemon with aromas of stone and tropical fruit with sweet oak spice and floral scents. On the palate flavors of ripe peach, melon and apple, with vanilla spice, rich & creamy. That nose, like cherry jolly ranchers mixed with crushed stones and tree bark. Orange peels. Almost Tamarind paste. Burgundian, but as so many have said, very Germanic. This, opening a ‘19 could be infanticide, but rewards are apparent. After driving to and fro for 4 hrs. Through early changing leaves it feels perfect. And on the palate it’s as if weightless, expansive, brown-and red fruit commingling. Tart, but mouthwatering so, not prickly or tannic.
Delightful wine.
