Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of two hours. The 2019 pours a garnet color with a transparent core; medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of ripe and tart red fruits: strawberry, raspberry, Morello cherry, roses, dried green herbs, and gravely earth. On the palate the wine is dry with high tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+. From one of the lesser known Conterno’s…but still quite lovely. Wow - first wine by Giacomo conterno and I see why this producer is hailed as one of the legends of Piedmonte. This required a few hours of air in decanter and was singing - the nose was utterly amazing with layered florals. Full body and a seemless experience on the palate - this has the structure to continue evolving for a few more years in bottle but I see no reason to wait! — 4 months ago
Powerful, earthy, and spicy. Dark chocolate and cassis. Still has lots of life in, so feel free to hold if you have some in your cellar. — 12 days ago
What a wonderful wine! Elegant and elevated with light cherry, rose perfume, baking spice and tobacco flavors. Seems full of life 17 years after harvest and absolutely sang with grilled lamb chops. — 25 days ago
I believe this was Aldo’s top Barolo back in the day(??), this is much more evolved than the 1982 Gaja Barbaresco, drying tannins and some just barely on the downside soy notes detract, as my brother always tells me, rarely are older wines great, but sometimes individual bottles are, still a very good 43-year-old Barolo!! — 3 months ago

Aug 2025: PnP ready, very good nose, almost lost fruit, strong tannins. Very nice first 30 min, then faded away quickly in one hour — 9 years ago
