On the Lawn at Tanglewood this evening with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Our full cast of conductors include Andris Nelsons, Christoph Eschenbach, Keith Lockhart, Michael Tilson Thomas and John Williams. The beautiful and vocally talented Audra McDonald is our host for the evening along with Midori on violin and Yo-Yo Ma on cello.
This will likely be an evening to remember for some time. Program notes from the BSO "Reflecting the season-long theme, The Bernstein Centennial Celebration at Tanglewood will spotlight Bernstein's wide-ranging talents as a composer, his many gifts as a great interpreter and champion of other composers, and his role as an inspirer of a new generation of musicians and music lovers across the country and around the globe. The gala concert will feature a kaleidoscopic array of artists and ensembles from the worlds of classical music, film, and Broadway. The entire first half of the program is dedicated to selections from such brilliant Bernstein works as Candide, West Side Story, Mass, and Serenade. Music from the classical canon very dear to Bernstein's heart-selections from Mahler's Des Knaben Wunderhorn and music by Copland-plus a new work by John Williams, makes up a good portion of the program's second half; the finale of Mahler's Resurrection Symphony brings the program to a dramatic close."
We're revisiting some producer bottles from our late Spring France vacation earlier this year.
Nose of sweet grass, wet minerals, apricot skin, spring rain on flowers and ripe lemon. Palate has curious light, sweet citrus notes, tropical yellow fruits, this bottle is alive!
Photos of Jean Jacques thieving the 2017 Puligny-Montrachet out for us to sample, the modest sign indicating you've arrived at the most interesting biodynamic place in Saint Aubin and our bottle of the evening.
24hr Update: Sweet, fermented tropical fruit. Honestly I believe this will be even better in another day. — 8 years ago

2018 vintage. As Juliette Ɓécot wanted to produce more elegant, accessible wines, Thomas Duclos replaced Michel Rolland as consulting oenologist with the 2017 vintage. I must say the new style is extremely convincing, and this 2018 is the best wine I have ever tasted from this estate. Although it is very concentrated, elegance is the keyword here, honouring the fine terroir on the limestone plateau. Raspberries, blueberries, flowers, subtle cedar wood, and a slight hint of fresh mint fighting for your attention. In the mouth, it seems so effortless, with layers of red and black fruit, velvety tannin and a very, very long mineral finish. The 14,5% abv is beautifully integrated. — 3 years ago
Lights out bottle from MG, one of my top 3 favorite producers. To no surprise 2002 is so open and giving and its aromatics could seduce you across the room. It’s very Vosne Romanée like as it shows a beautiful spice character and superior combination of power and elegance. There’s red currants, roasted herbs, sous bois and lovely integrated toasty oak. Finishes with fantastic length, depth and soft tannins. A stunner, and Chef Thomas Keller approved 😇 — 6 years ago

Fairest Creature – Perihelios – Cab Sauv – 2019
Napa Valley – Saint Helena, California, USA 🇺🇸
Overview
A compelling Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon crafted by acclaimed winemaker Thomas Brown under the Fairest Creature label. Perihelios represents a powerful yet precise expression of Napa Cabernet, balancing intensity, ripeness, and structure with polish. The 2019 vintage delivers depth and concentration without losing definition or elegance.
Aromas & Flavors
Deep and expressive, opening with blackcurrant, blackberry compote, and dark cherry. Secondary layers reveal graphite, cocoa powder, espresso, and subtle sweet spice, with hints of violet and dried herbs adding complexity as the wine opens.
Mouthfeel
Full-bodied and structured with firm, finely grained tannins. The palate shows weight and density, yet remains controlled and focused. Acidity provides lift through the mid-palate, leading to a long, powerful, and persistent finish.
Food Pairings
Grilled ribeye, braised short ribs, herb-crusted lamb, beef tenderloin, or rich mushroom-based dishes. Also excellent alongside aged hard cheeses or truffle-accented preparations.
Verdict
A serious, confidently built Napa Cabernet Sauvignon that showcases Thomas Brown’s signature precision and depth. Bold, concentrated, and age-worthy, yet already expressive with air. A wine that speaks clearly of Napa’s power while maintaining balance and refinement.

2019 vintage Saint-Emilion Grand Cru. Calicem is produced from a small vineyard (less than one hectare) adjacent to Grand Cru Classé Couvent des Jacobins whose owner bought it in 2015. It was planted in 1961/1962 with 100% Merlot from old clones.and it is vinified separately from Couvent des Jacobins (first vintage 2015).This beautiful 2019 is made in microscopic quantities (2188 bottles) with the "vinification intégrale" method which leads to a more gentle extraction and better wood integration. Winemaker Denis Pomarède and consulting oenologist Thomas Duclos did a great job in crafting a beautifully balanced wine with extraordinary elegance, purity, silky tannins and a long finish with an intriguing minerality. Don't expect a blockbuster, this is all about subtlety. Very impressive Saint-Emilion of Premier Grand Cru Classé quality, well worth trying to grab a bottle. Abv. 14,5 %. — 4 years ago
Made by Thomas Rivers Brown IN Russian River Valley. 50 year old went cloves planted on Saint George's Woodstock on hand trained vines. No irrigation lines. Dry farmed. Very few vineyards like that exist today. $420/6
