Pale to mid Lemon in colour. Initial notes of Vanilla Oak - a bit of leesy funk. Palate is medium plus intensity with some citrus and ripe grapefruit - generous with minerality and good length - a buttery note on the palate. An excellent new world Chardonnay from Oregon. A gorgeous savoury red fruited extravaganza. Herbal notes from whole bunches in the fermentation (50%). This certainly has become an instant hit as a top quality Pinot Noir from the Coal River Tasmania but owned by Shaw + Smith from the Adelaide Hills. Interesting to try 2 quality Pinots from the same vintage (2015) on successive nights. The Tolpuddle won over Yarra Yering in this bout, marginally. James Suckling’s comments, “They have totally nailed it” and 97 points. — 5 months ago
