Instead of dry January, I’m doing 10 year old January. It’s more fun. This is great. Checking in after a couple years and it’s progressing nicely. Still tight in the nose but opens up after 3 hours. — 8 months ago

Qupé

Bien Nacido Hillside Estate Syrah 1995

Stunning, raspberry, leather, and white pepper more reminiscent of Cote Rotie than California. Great depth, I’m crushed that this is my last bottle. — 9 months ago

Old Toll Hillside Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2010

Still excellent. Dark cherries, plums, dark chocolate, and leather. Fabulous on the nose, full-bodied, and complex. An outstanding wine from winemaker Sharon Harris. — 3 years ago

Halleck Vineyard

Hillside Cuvée Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir 2014

Just a little brett on the nose. Raspberry, plum and red licorice with a hint of hoisin and preserved apricot on the palate. Finish is savory with a bit of anise, more red licorice and some heat. — 5 years ago

Welcome trade to Pebble Beach Food & Wine.

This was good but the SLV showed much better. Love the espresso notes. Good pair with the Gator Sausage.

Viano Vineyards

Private Stock Hillside Red

Basic and simple label. No extras. Rust edged ruby colored in the glass. Aroma is unique. Old books in a wood paneled room meets well made finished compost with a splash of cherry preserves. Flavors are cooked a bit, but not overly oxidized. Plenty of the cherry. Black cherry jam. Savory streak. Complex finish with some minty zip. This is fairly smooth and elegant. Low alcohol of 13%. Very much an Italian style like good chianti or clean Barbera. Great red vino at a very good price. — 5 years ago

Oakville Hillside Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

Not the hillsides. All ripe red fruit and currants with some baking spice, creaminess and new toasty oak. Not destined for the long haul, but a real crowd pleaser (for two) now. — 6 years ago

Torbreck Vintners

Hillside Vineyard Grenache 2017

Delectable - this is a new Cuvée for Torbreck brought to the Toowoomba Wine Show Dinner by Torbreck winemaker Greg McGill. This was the 2017 Hillside Grenache. A good Grenache but I still think McLaren Vale is better for the variety than the Barossa. — 7 years ago

@Clive McNish Not sure if Yangarra from McLaren Vale gets to the US but their High Sands Grenache is winning everything over here and is sensational. Thanks for the heads up on the Kalleske.

Dry Creek Vineyard

Hillside & Benchland Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon 2021

Surprisingly light and fruity for a Cabernet! Made me think of more of a Grenache/Rhone varietal blend than Cab. Red fruit forward with lots of raspberry, a touch of strawberry & blackberry, and a hint of spice. Not what I'd expect from a California Cab but nice nonetheless! — 9 months ago

Belle Pente

Yamhill-Carlton Pinot Noir 2015

Just love this wine, great value, can’t get enough! Belle Pente (bell-pont') means "beautiful slope" - for their 70 acre hillside vineyard & winery site in Willamette Valley. Bright Ruby red with aromas of red fruits, herb spices and hints of blossom notes. On the palate strawberry and cherry flavors, slight sweet undertones, herb notes and smooth tannins. Well balanced on a long finish ending with mineral herb notes. Nice!! Great value. — 6 years ago
