Arran

Sherry Cask Single Malt Scotch Whisky

I was so excited when I tasted the original Arran 10 that I went out and bought all the variations I could find. However, I found them all to be slightly disappointing, including this one. There is an odd thinness on the palate and an off putting sour note on the back end which I did not enjoy. I’ve been trying a lot of “sherry bomb” whiskies lately and this was my least favorite. — a month ago

Rarecat

Jennifer California Rosé Blend 2021

Golden color tinged with pink. Honeydew, rose petal, strawberries, and a hint of tangerine. Very refreshing. Another great wine from Sharon Harris and the team at Rarecat, — 3 years ago

Harris Kratka Vineyard Zinfandel 2005

JKT
9.0

A rich but now well balanced Zin in that ripe style that I’d likely not have been too fond of when it was younger. Bottle coated with sediment and oak is prominent in how it’s resolved with plummy berry vanilla notes. Back label says a field blend of Zin Carignane and Petit Sirah, Alexander Valley vineyard, vines cultivated on St. George rootstock grafted onto a 75 year old clone of Zin. — 4 years ago

Chatto Wines

Isle Huon Valley Pinot Noir 2022

Delectable, this was the Intrigue Pinot Noir by Chatto, not in your database. We tasted this after the Home Hill Reserve Pinot Noir that I brought along. All wines tasted blind. Compared to the luscious Home Hill this was very stalky showing a high percentage of whole bunch. Smoked and earthy aromas together with savoury dark cherry. Great winemaking on show from Jim Chatto. In Mick’s Cellar last Saturday. — 5 months ago

Rock Wall Wine Co.

Harris-Kratka Zinfandel 2017

Dark, deep purple color. Lovely aroma of roses, ripe red/black plums and wood-stove. Flavors are elegant and meaty. Some savory, chewy parts and plenty of bing cherry. Also has an inky streak. This is a great cooler climate Zin. Drinks a bit like Merlot, but has a hazelnut or chestnut thing that sings pure Zin. — 4 years ago

Anthill Farms

Abbey-Harris Vineyard Pinot Noir 2017

Striking and expansive nose of red spring flowers, ripe strawberries, blood orange, diced habanero pepper, fresh herbs, a forest floor of pine needles. Palette is less interpretable; delicate, beautiful, simple. Structurally nice with a solid tannin/acid backbone. — 4 years ago

Château Dalem

Fronsac Merlot Cabernet Franc 2012

An 18th century chateau, overlooking the Isle valley, facing Pomerol and the Saint-Emilion limestone hillsides, belonged to the same family for three centuries took over by Michel Rullier in 1955, and his daughter Brigitte took the helm in 2002. Dark Ruby with an array of berry aromas and smoky scents. On the palate plum and cherry flavors with cacao, tobacco and smoky cedar notes with herb spice. Firm chalky tannins, long finish ending with earthy mineral notes. Still tasting ok, but drink now! — 4 years ago
