La Chasse Du Pape

Château Rayas

Réservé Châteauneuf-du-Pape Grenache Blend 2008

What a wine! Perfect garnet color. Smells of clean stables, roses, dry orange peel, herbs and stone. The wine softly coats the palate with vibrant red fruit and a symphony of acidity and balance that just envelope. Amazing wine. — 3 days ago

Château de Beaucastel

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhône Blend

2007: Wow. Phenomenal Chateauneuf with tons of character. Viscous, very rich, nicely concentrated with plenty of minerals and funk to balance the still-persistent purple fruit. Can’t imagine this getting any better with more age but plenty left. — 3 days ago

Domaine du Pegau

Cuvée Réservé Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2005

Opened and poured into a decanter about four hours prior to service. The 2005 pours a deep garnet with a near opaque core; medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears and some sediment. One the nose, the wine is developing with powerful notes of ripe brambles, garrigue, cool spices, leather, licorice, and espresso. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannins and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long, tart and sapid. A wine of pedigree and yet, has a rusticity that gives a nod to its origin. Drink now through 2035+? — 13 days ago

Domaine de Beaurenard (Paul Coulon et Fils)

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhône Blend 1995

Opened about 8 hours prior to service and Audouze’d. The 1995 pours a pale garnet with a transparent core and a watery rim. There significant variation of the rim too. The viscosity is medium and there is no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing (still!) with notes of bright red cherries, anise, garrigue, cedar forest, leather, dry earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannins and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The body is quite light and thin…but healthy. The finish is medium. Very pretty; very Burgundian. This bottle belies its age. Drink now and through 2030. — 15 days ago

Château Chasse-Spleen

Moulis en Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend 2006

Very dark rubi robe, nose of blackcurrant, flowers, asian apices and tobacco. The tannins are very elegant and the wine is very elegant and complex in the mouth. This is a fantastic vintage of Chasse Spleen and the wine is singing now. — 14 days ago
