Réserve Alsace Riesling 2008

Nice pairing with my Spicy Asian Lettuce Wraps. As the saying goes, if you have heat, bring the sweet.

This 08 has settled in nicely.

The petroleum has softened. White peach, tropical melons, apricots, Meyer lemons, some green apple, underripe pineapple juices, kiwi, liquid caramel, honeycomb notes, nut w/ skin, dry crushed, rock powder, saline notes, volcanic minerals, white & yellow flowers, grand acidity with nice balance and elegant finish that lasts nearly a minute and lands on soft earthiness and minerality.

Alsace has such history. Phylloxera in the late 1800’s destroyed the vines. World War I & II saw Alsace change hands twice, French & German. Also, saw German tanks roll over their vineyards. It takes 7 yrs for replanted vines to produce the first quality useable fruit. German soldiers drank all their cellars. Name me another non France region that saw that many issues. Maybe, Sicily?

Domaine du Pegau

Cuvée Réserve Châteauneuf-du-Pape White Rhone Blend 2023

Light golden in color, with an elegant nose.

Light to medium in body with medium acidity.

Dry on the palate with nice complexity.

Showing lemons, citrus, limes, green apples, light earth, herbs, spices and minerals.

Long finish with limes.

This is a very young white blend from Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Nicely balanced with nice complexity. Elegant and fruity.

Needs a couple of years in the bottle to mature, and will continue to age nicely in the next 7 years.

Easy drinking and good by itself or with food.

A blend of 60% Clairette, 20% Grenache Blanc, 10% Bourboulenc and 10% Roussane. Aged for 8 months in stainless steel vats. A small production of only 4,000 bottles.

14% alcohol by volume.

90 points.

$80.

Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande

Réserve de la Comtesse Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2015

Drinking very nicely and a surprisingly good value on the list at Polo Bar. The age has been very good to this, it’s still quite primary but the tannins are pretty seamless and the fruit and earth express nicely. Just enough acid on the finish to keep it together - could have used more but this is 2015 Bordeaux after all. Nice wine. — 25 days ago

Royale Réserve Brut Champagne Blend

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of 90 minutes. The Royale Réserve Brut pours a straw color with a persistent mousse. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of apple, lemon, raspberry, brioche, some toasted marshmallow, marzipan and limestone minerals. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+ and the texture is creamy. Disgorged January 2024. — a month ago
