Late Bottled Vintage Porto 2019

Jan A
9.2

Battle of the ports. We had a port/cheese night with some friends and I opened 7 late bottled vintage ports from well known producers. Some notable wines included:
Favorite was 2019 Taylor's LBV: as with the vintage port of Taylor's which is always amongst my favorites, this LBV was balanced with hedonistic fruit and just the right amount of tannins.
2020 Dow's LBV was dark and dusty
2020 and 2019 Grahams LBV were very structured, needing a couple more years of cellar time.
2018 Quinta do Noval gave the most floral vintage port profile on the nose, close after the Taylor's.
2020 Niepoort LBV was also notable, with a different, typical Niepoort profile compared to the rest with the least amount of tannins.

@Jan A, you said 7, but you only mentioned 6 — is that a Fonseca LBV on the far left of your picture??

I only mentioned six and discussed also one not on the picture (I drank a Grahams LBV in the week before which also needed time). The remaining undiscussed were 2019 Fonseca and 2019 Cockburn's LBV, both were solid.

Dow's

Late Bottled Vintage Porto 2018

Much more forward and less deep and structured than the outstanding 2016 LBV Dow’s, well made and great fruit, medium-long finish, very fine!! — 7 months ago

In a perfect spot for a well cared/stored for LBV; bought on release with more of its friends just coming out from hiding finally.

Awesome, I do confess a major sweet spot for LBV Porto, one cannot drink 1977 Fonseca once a week (or at least THIS one)!! Cheers!

I'd try to drink a '77 Porto once per week, but I'll run out...in about one week 😂
Not much depth on that legendary vintage here

@Severn G, early in my wine collecting (NYC, early to mid-80s), I was lucky enough to purchase a few 1970s and then case lots of 1977 Fonseca, Taylor,, Grahams (inconsistent, some outstanding and some average), and half-cases of Dow’s and Warre’s. I probably have a half-case of Fonseca and Taylor left, the others less, but damn, the 1977s remain amazing. BUT, I figured you had multiples of those wines in your cellar!! 🤷🤷
