Valdespino

Manzanilla Deliciosa En Rama Saca de Primavera Palomino Fino 2015

Atlantic Ocean, lite...Notes tomorrow?

192H Update:
Nose has fully saturated oak plank, moist almonds, incredible sweet & saline notes, fermenting green apples, white chocolate bar, white candle wax and fresh yellow apple slice. Palate has almond broth (does that exist?), dried yellow apple, chamomile tea, moist bread, faint green olive (?) with mild saline finish, faint acidity. Damn I do not drink enough Manzanilla!

Lucien Crochet

Sancerre Sauvignon Blanc 2018

Tasted double-blind. The 2018 Lucien Crochet pours a very pale straw color. On the nose, almost imperceptible pyrazines. Instead, the smell of an ocean breeze with a touch of cheesy funk that I find rather attractive. On the palate, there is an undeniable freshness to this wine that is really compelling. Citrus fruits with white pepper. Medium-plus acid. Satisfying finish. Very good! — 5 years ago

Belle Glos

Dairyman Russian River Valley Pinot Noir 2023

Dairyman Vineyard sits in the southern alluvial plains of the Russian River Valley near the ocean, a region where cooling fog comes in through the Petaluma Gap in the morning and once again in the evening. Medium Ruby color, with aromas of berries, tea and spices. On the palate flavors of raspberry and tart black cherry with herb, cedar and cinnamon. Fine tannins, medium+ finish with lively acidity, good structure, ending with fruit and cedar spice. — 6 months ago

Riserva Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend 1996

Alder Yarrow
9.2

Older bottles of Chianti are some of the wine world’s unknown treasures. Everyone is happy to age Brunello but you don’t see many people putting away Chianti in the cellar. And they’re missing out. If you can find old bottles you can sometimes get them for a song, as I did a bunch of these from @garagiste_wine. You want to talk about punching above your weight?!? These suckers are classy AF. Dark fruit with leather, a touch of graphite and earth. Great acidity still, decant and watch them shine. 1996 Terreno “Riserva” Chianti Classico, Tuscany, Italy. ⁣ — 5 years ago

The nose is wonderful in my view. Of course the wood is there but there is a lot of brown sugar in it fit me. It reads hot on the palate, viscous with a long finish. Not a full mouthfeel but you still want more. — 6 years ago

Les Clos Chablis Grand Cru Chardonnay 2007

Decant your white burgs! This improved so much with air. There’s such power and verve with incredible depth and seamlessness of its layered Chablisen minerality, with buttercream, roasted hazelnuts and an ocean spray-like salinity. It’s texturally captivating, wrapping around the palate with killer density without weight. Racy acids balance its richness and secondary nuttiness and it finishes forever. Excellent. — 9 months ago

Rías Baixas Albariño

Nose - gardenia, chamomile, ocean and clay pot. Appearance - Super duper clean. Beautiful light straw color. Main tasting notes - tart lemon all day with a little bit of grapefruit. Pretty acidic with a longer acid finish but the acid works well with the lemon flavor. Really nice with a spicy summer chicken dish. Not always a fan of acidic whites but this hits the spot. — 2 years ago

Bloom's Field Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir 2017

Nose shows greenness/stems, smoke, strawberries. Lightly crunchy, medium+ acid; some ocean spray cranberry juice here. Texture is where this shines with a rich creaminess that ends with medium+ acid. Great food wine. — 4 years ago

Vermentino di Gallura 2018

Besides its acidity, this Sardinian wine is an especially good pair with seafood because it carries the smell of the ocean. Salinity bursts forth with citrus in tow, both on the nose and the palate. It’s a savory wine with loads of character, and it’s a Vermentino from Sardegna. That’s really all you need to know.
