Quilceda Creek

Galitzine Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

It is time for my #FridayCabernetfix.

Dark purple in color with a wide purplish rim.

Beautiful nose of black fruits with cedar, vanilla, leather, spices, earth, chocolates, tobacco and peppercorn.

Full-bodied with medium acidity.

Dry and fruit forward on the palate with black currants, plums, cooked cherries, blackberries, cedar, vanilla, spices, chocolates, tobacco, light earth and herbs.

Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries.

This is a gorgeous Cabernet Sauvignon from Red Mountain in Washington State. Elegant and fruity. Smooth and soft.

This 6 year old is showing nice complexity at this point, and will continue to age nicely in the next 10 to 15 years. Showing good potential to become a 95+ point wine.

This Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is good right out of the bottle, and better after 90 minutes of airtime.

Spicy, entertaining, and the high alcohol is well integrated by now.

Good by itself as a sipping wine or with a nice piece of steak.

100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes were aged for 20 months in all new French oak barrels.

14.8% alcohol by volume.

Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim.

Beautiful nose and full bodied with medium acidity.

Showing blackberries, black currants, cooked plums, cedar, tobacco leaf, chocolates, coffee, herbs, spices, earth, light vanilla, black pepper and eucalyptus.

Long finish with fine grained tannins and cherries.

This is a wonderful Napa Cabernet. Rich and elegant with a soft mouthfeel. Fruit forward with nice complexity.

Drinking beautifully now as a 14 year old. Not too much in your face kind of wine, which is very nice to see out of Napa. Just a pleasure.

At its peak now, and will continue to drink nicely in the next 5 years.

A gorgeous wine to share with good friends.

Good right out of the bottle, easy drinking and good by itself. Will also pair nicely with a nice piece of steak.

13.9% alcohol by volume.

Trilogy Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2019

It's time for my #FridayCabernetfix.

Deep purple in color, almost inky, with a short purple rim.

Fruity nose of blackberries, cooked plums, sweet cherries, cedar, light vanilla, licorice, spices, chocolates, coffee, light cocoa powder and peppercorn.

Full-bodied and smooth with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate with blackberries, black currants, plums, cooked cherries, cedar, vanilla, spices, espresso, cola, light herbs, earth, chocolates, coffee, peppercorn and tobacco.

Tangy finish with round tannins and raspberries.

This is a delicious Cabernet Sauvignon based Bordeaux blend from Napa Valley. Tangy and interesting.

Spicy, rich and extracted, yet elegant. Nicely balanced with a nice mouth feel.

I had the 2018 not too long ago, and it is very consistent.

Very young, but already drinking nicely, after a couple of hours of airtime. A good quality wine that will age nicely in the next 10 to 15 years.

A good sipping wine that doesn't necessarily need food, but will be great with a big piece of steak as well.

A blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Malbec, 10% Petit Verdot and 8% Cabernet Franc. Aged in mostly French oak barrels for 18 months.

14.2% alcohol by volume.

Château La Mission Haut-Brion

Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend 2017

Getting ready to leave France, so let's go out with a bang! It is time for some Merlot on this #MerlotThursday.

Dark ruby in color with a reddish rim.

Fruity nose of black currants, black plums, black cherries, tobacco, cedar, light vegetables, licorice, chocolates, coffee and light peppercorn.

Medium plus in body with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate with black currants, cherries, plums, light oak, spices, chocolates, licorice, light vegetables, black pepper, tobacco leaf, earth and black tea.

Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.

This 8 year old Merlot based blend is still very young. In most vintages, it is a Cabernet Sauvignon based blend, but in the 2017 vintage it was a little different.

Spicy and entertaining. Well balanced and complex, but a little tight and restraint right now. Much earthier than I expected it to be.

Needs 5 years in the bottle to mature properly, and will continue to age nicely in the next 20 years.

A good food wine right now, that will pair nicely with a big piece of steak.

A blend of 56% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Cabernet Franc. Aged in (70% New) French oak barrels for 18 months.

14% alcohol by volume.

Medium finish with grippy tannins and raspberries.

This 15 year old, Fifth Growth Bordeaux, is still young and tight. Needs 5 to 10 years in the bottle to mature properly.

I gave it 90 minutes in the decanter, but it probably was not enough.

Robert Parker 96 points. Wine Spectator 92 points.

Showing nice complexity with a nice mouthfeel. Grippy and rich.

Definitely needs food at this point, like a big piece of steak.

Continuum

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2014

Tim Mondavi’s master piece! This is my 2014 Continuum. One word: FANTABULOUS! Sage mountain vineyard in 2014 was incredible for cabernet! This is the best cab Ive had all year! Who says you dont always get what you pay for? 225 dollars of pure ecstasy in a glass! Wow. Fig newton dipped in grape jelly on the nose. Dark berries fill the palate followed by black pepper and dark chocolate . It is as velvety smooth as it gets. The oak and tree moss come through on the finish with a slight tingle on the corners of the lips and cheeks. The finish is dry and lingers with even more complexity! Cigar box, mineral rich soil, Black licorice, and grape jelly again! Goodness. I have been waiting on this one for a long time and I am so glad it is as good as I thought it would be. I just wish I had someone to share it with!!! — 3 years ago

This is a delicious Cabernet Sauvignon based Bordeaux blend from Israel. Rich and extracted. Fruit forward and elegant.

Complex and well structured with good balance. Feels like a very rich Left Bank Bordeaux.

I've had a few vintages of this wine, and it is very consistent.

This 4 year old Cabernet is still young but already Complex, and will continue to age nicely in the next 10 years.

Needs a couple of hours to open up properly, and bring out the complexity and structure, but good right out of the bottle too.

A great sipping wine that will also pair nicely with a big piece of steak.

Meritage Blend 2014

Sometimes everything goes wrong on a Friday. And then, you think you fix it, and it goes wrong again. And then it goes wrong one more time because why the fuck not. But then, you get off work, and you come home, and you open a bottle of wine like this, and you realize, work sucks and wine is awesome. — 7 months ago

Ziereisen

Rhini Blauer Spätburgunder 2017

Just all around really balanced and drinkeable. The nose isn’t as seductive as some of the other Ziereisen bottlings, but this shows all the pristine balance of his winemaking and vineyard work. Deep pretty red fruits on the palate. — 4 years ago
