This is a gorgeous 15 year old Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley.

Full bodied with medium acidity.

Dry and very fruity on the palate with nice complexity and a soft mouthfeel.

Showing black fruits with cedar, vanilla, leather, spices, earth, chocolates, tobacco, coffee and peppercorn.

Long finish with fine grained tannins and cherries.

Showing great complexity on the nose and palate.

Peaking now and will continue to drink nicely in the next 5 years.

Good right out of the bottle and good by itself. Will pair nicely with a big piece of steak.

It's time for my #FridayCabernetfix. Here is a beautiful one from Bordeaux.

Dark ruby in color with a short reddish rim.

Fruity nose with black currants, plums, cooked cherries, cedar, vanilla, spices, espresso, earth, tobacco leaf, herbs and black pepper.

Dry on the palate with black currants, plums, cooked cherries, oak, light vanilla, earth, wet leaves, herbs, peppercorn, pencil lead, dark coffee, dark chocolates and tobacco leaf.

Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.


This 7 year old, from the great 2015 vintage, is drinking very nice right now.

This Fifth growth Bordeaux is showing nice complexity, with a soft and elegant mouthfeel.

Good right out of the bottle, and better after 3 hours in the decanter.

Young, but already delicious, and will continue to age nicely in the next 20 years.

Good by itself as a sipping wine, and good with food too. Will pair nicely with a nice piece of steak.

A Delicious wine that drank better than the 1996 I had 4 years ago.

A blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and a touch of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. Aged in French oak barrels (50% new) for 16 months.

From Kevin Carriker (used to work with Mark Herold for the early vintages - not sure about these later ones). Excellent Napa cab that went great with grilled filet mignon. Could easily improve in the bottle for a few more years. Not the best incarnation of Kobalt that I’ve had, but it’s still very good. — 3 years ago

Such a masterful wine at almost 11 years of age. Nose is luscious and deep. Mint and red fruits and dramatic exotic spices. Terrific minerality. Limestone galore. Layered and perfumed. Knockout. Some charcoal as well. Palate is so juicy and energetic giving luscious red cherries that burst with intensity on the explosive finish. Then it cuts a swath of mineral and slowly dissipates. The work of a genius. The sweetness of the fruit and depth of minerality are so intertwined here. Unreal purity. Truly the most amazing Rhini I have ever had. — 3 months ago

Fruity nose of blueberries, black cherries, cedar, vanilla, spices, chocolates, herbs, light eucalyptus, black pepper, herbs and black tea.

Full bodied with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate with blackberries, black currants, plums, cooked cherries, figs, cedar, vanilla, licorice, spices, chocolates, tobacco, herbs, earth and peppercorn.

Long finish with round tannins and tangy cherries.

This 8 year old from the great 2014 vintage, is drinking very nicely now. Fruit forward, rich and extracted.

Showing great complexity already, and will continue to age nicely in the next 20 years.

This Single Vineyard is opulent and very smooth. Gorgeous with generous fruit.

Good right out of the bottle and better after an hour of airtime.

Wine Enthusiasts 93 points. Robert Parker 97 points.

After a coffee chat at work yesterday that ended discussing Hillside Select I was motivated to open one for the holiday weekend. Initially I was very disappointed as the wine was flat and uninspiring considering the pedigree and price tag. Read some reviews that this 2013 needs A LOT of air and sure enough after hours the wine began to evolve and markedly improve. It is an intense wine that lingers in the mouth for a long time. Smooth tannins, red fruit and tobacco flavors. Not my most favorite wine and not at the $229 I paid, but nonetheless a very good wine once it had the chance to get some air for a few hours — 3 years ago

This is the regular bottling of Vietti’s Moscato d’Asti. I’m not normally a Moscato frizzante guy but I’m trying out an unusual recipe that calls for half a bottle of it. So we’re drinking the rest of it and it’s quite nice. Loads of spritely fruit on the nose, ripe and zesty in the mouth. Super clean and pure tasting. This would be dynamite rehydration after a work-out! Only 5% alcohol! — 7 months ago

Full-bodied and smooth with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate with blackberries, black currants, plums, cooked cherries, cedar, vanilla, spices, espresso, cola, light herbs, earth, chocolates, coffee, peppercorn and tobacco.

Tangy finish with round tannins and raspberries.

This is a delicious Cabernet Sauvignon based Bordeaux blend from Napa Valley. Tangy and interesting.

Spicy, rich and extracted, yet elegant. Nicely balanced with a nice mouth feel.

I had the 2018 not too long ago, and it is very consistent.

Very young, but already drinking nicely, after a couple of hours of airtime. A good quality wine that will age nicely in the next 10 to 15 years.

A good sipping wine that doesn't necessarily need food, but will be great with a big piece of steak as well.

A blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Malbec, 10% Petit Verdot and 8% Cabernet Franc. Aged in mostly French oak barrels for 18 months.
