J. Schram Blancs 2014

Popped and poured. This is actually 86% Chardonnay with Pinot Noir making up the balance. Despite the same 8-year tirage as the “Noirs”, this comes across quite a bit fresher with less of the funky oxidative notes and more of the richer, rounded fruit. White peach, lemon meringue, brioche and minerals. Very nice indeed. — a year ago

I love bringing out things like this because I like to hear what people think. Tasted blind at a table of five. Asked for origin and, if brazen enough, producer. One person admitted their sparkling palate was not good enough, 2 including myself already knew what this was, the other did not guess but consumed his glass rather quickly and even refilled. The only person who was bold enough guessed J Schram. So, I give you J Schram at 60% off! Smaller bubbles, hint of nuttiness, green apple at first that settles to a honeydew melon. Finishes with a little bit of tart, a little bit of acidity, and a little bit of dryness. Very crisp. Couldn't hold a candle to France's best? No way, but this is not the intent. One of my secret weapons to very inexpensive sparklers that do the job extremely well. — 6 years ago

I was only able to have a glass of this and it wasn’t quite at its chilled state yet, but this is definitely worth every bit of its 9.2 rating, especially at the price! Lemon peel, meringue, toasted brioche on the nose with reductive notes of pear and bruised apple on the palate. A fantastic Cali sparkler.

Out of magnum. This would have been appreciated more if it wasn’t overshadowed by a grand cru Champagne…soft with lees and yellow stone fruit. — 4 months ago

Minor leagues compared to the J Schram or the Billecarte but nothing stopped the two of us from polishing off this magnum on Friday night. No regrets come Saturday morning. — 5 years ago

L'Ermitage Brut Anderson Valley Chardonnay Pinot Noir 2006

Compared to a 2004 J Schram, this one had more bubbles but seemed to have a little less fruit complexity. The J Schram is a 95, and I believe this one is probably 91 to 92. Lighter notes for sure. Mango, honeydew and a hint of kiwi. As I said, very good bubbles on this one. Finished dry, made you want to take another sip, so mission accomplished. I'm a little ignorant on the bubbles side of things, but I know a good sparkler when I see one. This one was there, but found myself going back to the J Schram. — 7 years ago

Probably the best domestic sparkler I've had. Extremely "lively". Front palate on this has a fizziness to the bubbles that makes it seem unending. Fruit notes haven't faded at all. Wonder where I can get some of this...🤔
