Kapcsándy Family Winery

Grand Vin State Lane Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2011

Popped and poured on July 4th after enjoying the day’s frivolities; enjoyed over the following few days and consistent throughout. The 2011 pours a deep ruby/purple color with a near opaque core; medium+ viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of tart and ripe dark fruits: plums, brambles, cassis, espresso, mushrooms, leather, purple flowers, toe jam, earth and Christmas fruit cake. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannins and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose though the fruit comes across much fresher on the palate. The finish is medium+. The texture is soft and super silky. Despite 2011 being a challenging vintage from a Napa perspective, this was quite distinctive and complex, though maybe lacking a bit of stuffing. Stylistically however, this Kapcsándy is a refreshing take on a modern Napa Valley, Cabernet-based blend at a svelte 13.9% ABV. Bravo! Drink now through 2031. — 13 hours ago

State Lane Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

It is time for my #FridayCabernetfix.

Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim.

Nice nose of cedar, licorice, cola, Indian spices, chocolates and tobacco.

Medium plus in body with medium acidity.

Dry on the palate with currants, plums, cooked cherries, cedar, spices, light vanilla, tobacco, peppercorn, espresso, eucalyptus, light vegetables and herbs.

Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.

This 4 year old Cabernet Sauvignon from Yountville is already delicious. Fruit forward and elegant. Soft and smooth.

Showing nice complexity. Still young but already enjoyable even by itself.

Good right out of the bottle, and better after an hour in the decanter. A good quality wine.

Will continue to age nicely in the next 10 years. This Single Vineyard has good potential to become a 94 +point wine.

A good sipping wine that will pair nicely with a big piece of steak.

A blend of 97% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Petit Verdot. Aged for 19 months in (55% new) French Oak barrels. Only 7,200 bottles made.

14.5% alcohol by volume.

92 points.

$90.

Art Series Margaret River Riesling 2020

Pale straw . Lemon and lime with some petrol hints ,green herbs , white flower notes as well . Light bodied with high acidity , green apple , lime and grapefruit . Very fresh , high acidity , leaves the palate very fresh , lively . Touch of fresh green herbs on the ok length finish . Would prefer to leave this 2 or 3 years , just to fill out a little more in the bottle and will last well a further 10 or so . — a month ago

Do you like their Big G? I think it’s pretty Rocks-like funky.

Sean also poured the Big G. I did not post it here as it is like every other Rocks Rhone wine from the area; not very interesting. @Shay A

Levels above others. This one we decanted and it made a difference. Elements of Rutherford but still not as dusty. Earthy and complex. Liked this. — 22 days ago

Art Series Margaret River Chardonnay 2016

Unscrewed and poured; no formal notes. These friggen Chardonnays from Margaret River. I’ve been blinded on them too many times to count and I never call it right. Instead, I always seem to call a high acid grape like Riesling of Sauvignon Blanc. The fruit is sometimes tropical, always with citrus and sometimes is shows green apple and always with awesome minerals. Acid is squarely in the high category. They are lovely wines that just seem to throw me for a loop. If Chablis, the Mosel and Sancerre had a love child. Drink now and through 2036 easy. A fabulous pairing with lamb massaman, larb and papaya salad. How can they hide the 100% new French oak so well?! — 2 months ago
