1995 vintage. Not decanted. Appropriate color. Good fill and cork. Beautiful, integrated nose. Flavors same. Medium-medium heavy body. Dark fruit, earth and spice coalescing into a unified experience now. This is at the top of the bell curve for the next half-decade and probably longer. @Bob McDonald I have run across quite a few Burgundy drinkers that are adamant about not having their Burgs decanted. I get it if it’s a bleepy vintage (this wasn’t). A lot of people are convinced that these “force of nature” wines such as this, DRC stuff and 1st growth BDX will have the magic evaporate suddenly and be left with nothing. Perhaps if you’re opening wines older than 1961 BDX, but imho, wines like this need a bit of soft yoga stretching in a decanter after being straight-jacketed for 3-6 decades-esp Bordeaux. People are PNP’ing their great wines and drinking them over the course of an hour or so without a decant The vast majority of these upper level wines will taste better with another 30 mins-3 hours of airtime.

Clos de la Mouchère Monopole Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Chardonnay 2013

Honeyed medium yellow to the sight, true to its age. White floral and lemony vibrant notes dance on my nose. A touch reductive on the initial sip, the palate opens up with time to showcase classic mineralite and a vibrant fruit core with notes of citrus and to a lesser extent, stone fruits. Lovely weight with great mouth caressing viscosity and silkiness. Definitely in a good drinking window with no sign of fading and evolving in the glass over a lovely 2 hour Cantonese cuisine dinner. 2013 vintage. Sweet fill and cork. Trashy label. Slightly less sed than expected. Big nose on the decant. Tasted after 1 hour open and 5 hours open. Medium heavy body. Roasted nuts, earth, plummy fruit and grilled beef nose and flavors. Finishing palate added a finely ground black pepper note. Consistent throughout and absolutely delicious. 05.23.25. — 21 days ago
