Borgo Syrah

Alban Vineyards

Reva Alban Estate Vineyard Syrah 2002

2002 vintage. Decanted and tasted 15 minutes and 1 hour after decanting. Slight amount of sediment. Cedar, cinnamon and traces of bacon fat in the nose along with a splash of VA. The VA blew off and wasn’t there after 1 hour but was hanging out at the onset. Medium heavy body with another 5-7 years likely dropping this to medium body. Smoked meats, bigg dark plum and roasted nuts still part and parcel during. No rush to crush. 10.28.25. — 7 days ago

The VA/ethyl acetate is, to me, a calling card for Alban’s Syrahs. I find it there 9/10 times

La Mouline Côte-Rôtie Syrah 2006

Always the most elegant and perfumed and even Burgundian of the La La’s, 06 is gorgeous tonight, open and giving with the oak seamlessly absorbed, wafting layers of cassis, bacon fat, camphor and exotic spices with silky palate and tremendous length. Still young but quite accessible now! — 5 days ago

Estate Grown Ballard Canyon Syrah 2019

Blackberry, rich and quite thick on palate, but with some very nice underlying acidity that provides some nice tension on the palate and into the lingering finish, very fine Central Coast Syrah! — 15 days ago

Really lovely and punchy. Vivid fruit, loads of savory tangy fruit. Iron and iodine and a hint of strawberry sweetness. Excellent — 5 days ago

Crozes-Hermitage Syrah 2022

Exceptional, the lightest hint of Syrah smoke, but a lot fruit forward blackberry and herbal bell pepper hints, loads of acidity, integrated tannins. — 11 days ago

Côtes du Rhône Syrah 2019

100% Syrah. This is a very inexpensive Cotes but 2019 was a banner year. Velvety and full bodied. Notes of black cherry, graphite and cocoa powder. Medium tannins brings a decent finish. Nicely paired with a spicy grilled chicken. — 22 days ago
