Dirt Vernacular Grenache Blend 2016

2016 vintage. Decanted and tasted immediately. Bigg. Heavy body. Phenomenal and smooth but tight and leaning on you like a predator creditor. Came back to those after 8 hours lounging in the decanter. Now, medium-heavy body with more spices than Marco Polo ever dreamed of. The SQN wines, both white (better than the reds) and red, are eff you wines. They are ridiculous and defy norms, values and expectations. This has 30+ years of top-notch drinking. Great for lamb, turkey, wild game and…yah…boring beef. 12.25.24. — 3 days ago

Bold call on the whites but I’ve never had one that wasn’t amazing so maybe you are right.

The Dirt Worshipper Central Coast Syrah Blend 2020

Blend of mostly Syrah with a splash of Petit Verdot, Clairette Blanche, Graciano and Viognier, may vary a bit from year to year. Deep Ruby with purple hues, big aromas of dark fruits, cedar and spice. On the palate flavors of blackberry, plum & blueberry with notes of vanilla, licorice and smoke. Fine tannins, long finish, great mouthfeel ending with fruit, herbs and spice. — 18 days ago

La Pialade de Rayas Côtes du Rhône Red Rhône Blend 2014

One of the most memorable wines ever. First thing I noticed was the color, very pale garnet. Spice and wet dirt on the nose, very little fruit. The palate was amazing: rusted iron and sandalwood. Each sip was more and more compelling. A wine that you want to drink slowly and to savor. Only 1 bottle, unfortunately. — 4 years ago

Casta Diva Cosecha Miel Alicante Muscat 2014

I ask for a sweet wine not from Jerez (Sherry) and she gives me a taste and says do you want a full glass? To this wine I say F*#& yes! Super acidity makes this drinkable as heck! Passion fruit, papaya, beeswax, honeysuckle and bitter orange notes on the nose and palate. Nice mouthfeel, with body yet super smooth. Paired with chocolate mousse and passion fruit ice cream, I am feeling extremely guilty and already planning my run for tomorrow morning! — 5 years ago

Good wine. Didn't have it at the right temperature but it had good potential. Deep, blackberries, noticeable tanins.. — 6 months ago

Château Montrose

Saint-Estèphe Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 1966

1966 vintage. Last tasted 9.20.23. That bottle was a little "chunkier." This one was more refined. Decanted and tasted nearly immediately and throughout a 2 hour window. Throwing the expected kitchen sink's worth of sed. Color initially seemed lighter, like 30+ year old red Burg but ended up being a tad darker than that. Light-medium body. Earth, summer dirt and Valrhona chocolate in the nose. All this plus dried cherries in the frontal palate finish. Not much to speak of on the back end. Rated that 9.20.23 bottle an 8.8 and this is slightly better. Still...a definite rush to crush this. 11.11.23. — a year ago
