Amongst the second growths, the wine of the night (still can’t top the Lafite Rothschild). Really singing. The last glass, poured from another bottle, was less dynamic. I’ve had a good bit of 1989 Gruaud Larose in the last several years, and it is a great wine in this vintage. — 9 days ago
Mild bouquet of dusty dark fruit. Quick mild sour cherries upfront with a dusty fruit mild tobacco finish. Definitely old world style. — a month ago
Nice example from a troubled era of Ducru. No cork taint, thankfully. Started a little flat on the nose but really got going with time in the glass (had been double decanted earlier in the afternoon). Served with dry aged smoked duck breast with truffled grits, duck egg, fig, honey shimeji and braised endive. — 9 days ago
What a delicious 16 year old Bordeaux from Saint Julien.
Dark ruby in color with a wide brick rim.
Full-bodied with medium acidity.
Dry on the palate with nice complexity.
Showing black fruits with cedar, licorice, coffee, light earth, herbs, spices, tobacco leaf and dark chocolates.
Elegant and easy drinking once it opens up. Needs 3 hours.
This second wine is drinking very nicely now, although not from a great vintage.
Good by itself as a sipping wine. Would also pair nicely with game meats or lamb dishes.
13% alcohol by volume.

Medium ruby , quite wide garnet rim, clear and bright . Cassis , blackberry , sous bois , mint , cedar , grafite , good clarity and surprisingly fruit driven still . Good volume on the palate , dark fruits , mint , good acidity and still quite gritty tannins. Saline and grafite tinged finish . Good length . Drinking very well now and over the next 5 years . For 2002 this is showing very well, classic and surprisingly elegant, a really nice surprise! — 9 days ago
