Habemus Papam Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2016

Decanted for an hour and tasted fresh, young, and light. Got a lot of pepper and some brine on the backend. Nose of flowers but a definite olive oil, herbs, ripe red and purple fruits. Couldn’t pin the flavors and did some research to find the Counoise grape is blended, hopefully explaining why my unrefined palate is finding such different flavors. Definitely feeling the high alcohol coming off enough that it almost feels like overbearing acid. Tannins coat the tongue but it still comes off with a deep freshness. Lovely. — 15 hours ago

Les Quatre Terres Côtes du Rhône Red Rhone Blend 2021

Bright ruby red with pink rim . Quite open and juicy, fresh and enticing , red cherry , raspberry , strawberry , with just a touch of fresh cut herbs . On the palate quite ripe red fruits noted on the nose with just a hint of smokiness. Finishes clean and fresh and with good acidity , ripe fine tannin, good balance and ok length . Quaffable, moreish and nicely judged Côtes du Rhône to drink now and over the next 7-10 years . — 6 months ago

Prestige des Hautes Garrigues Gigondas Red Rhone Blend 2007

2007 Rhones drying out…?
Not this one!
Wonderfully balanced and complete, this oozes luxurious notes of cassis and blackberries, classy leather, brown spices, smoked ham, pinches of black pepper and sandalwood. Juicy, fresh, classic hedonism.
Marvelous.

Aux Lieux-Dits Gigondas Red Rhone Blend 2019

Dark red fruit, oxidative notes, stewed fruit, plum, pencil lead, cola, molasses, and ripe black fruit. Medium plus body, high tannins, high alcohol, high acid, and long finish. Drink now with all the tertiary stuff going on, which surprises me given the vintage is only 5 years old. — 15 days ago

Domaine Duc de Magenta Clos de la Garenne Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Chardonnay 2021

Bracing white with lovely smoke like wafts of lemon, spice, chalk, green grass and lovely mineral foreground. Layered on long on the tongue. Absolutely needs food as on its own maybe a little too bracing but with a nice grilled fish and salad it’s balanced. — 2 months ago

Grange le Duc Bourgogne Passetoutgrains Gamay Pinot Noir 2020

Popped and poured; no formal notes. The 2020 “Grange le Duc” has some real Volnay sensibilities with lovely, elegant fruit and forest floor with a taut structure. This responded very well to air and I expect this will flesh out with some cellar time. Drinking well now with some patience and will continue to do so through 2030. — 7 months ago

St. Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2016

Medium deep ruby, quite narrow ruby pink rim . Dark creme de cassis , blackberry , with earthy , mineral , grafite touches , quite inviting and open , though still classic in style . On the palate more cassis , grafite , blackberry , quite juicy and round , but with balanced acidity and alcohol , rounded but noticeable tannins . Ok length . Drinking well now and will age well over the next 5-10 years — a month ago
