Weill Vineyard Exposition Two Syrah 2011

Expositions 1 & 2 wildly different. 1 is dense young and pure CA while 2 co-ferment is likely past peak and sparse. - at Guille’s — 2 months ago

Jessie James Vineyard Pinot Noir 2022

Outrageous! Even in the flood of thanksgiving wines, this stood head and shoulders above the din. Selfishly, I’m glad only 3-4 of us were partakers. By far, one of , if not the very best U.S. Pinot Noir in my experience. Wonderful nose and balance in all things.
We shall have to wait for a non-holiday quaff for greater exposition.
Thanks @FassSelections

Les Cras Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2014

All smiles in the exposition, but the climax some two hours in was truly breathtaking. It was all mineral, mineral, mineral - the undeniable theme of this tale! So much so that it even permeated the nose, with chalky aromas mingled in with notes of cherries, strawberries, roses, and spices, incense almost. And the palate, oh the palate - just brimming with limestone energy. It’s hard to believe there’s just fruit in the bottle. The chalky, saline flavours and the grainy tannins made the rock almost palpable in the glass. Ah, such persistent minerality. Most definitely the best showing in the evening, but could potentially be legendary with time. — 3 years ago

Pé du Loup Crozes-Hermitage Marsanne Roussane 2017

Expresses its windy exposition and kaolin clay soils, the fruit is dialed and taught with firm tannins driving the wine through the finish. Mineral underpinnings. Despite its nerve, the classic D&R buoyant fruit emerged. Would like to see it in 1-2 years to see where it is. — 6 years ago

La Côte des Monts Damnés Sancerre Sauvignon Blanc 2017

To me a perfect meeting point of ripeness, acidic tension, concentration, and minerality. The depth of fruit shows the vineyards exposition while well-made SS treatment keeps purity and freshness across all fronts. Ripe grapefruit, underripe stone fruit, tropical notes without having an exuberant side to it.
Herbal component is subdued yet integrated, making more of the case for sweet herbs than raw pyrazine. Texturally there’s almost an allusion of oak in its mouthfeel. This is fantastic for the price, great quality.

This is the best American Syrah I’ve had and possibly the best syrah period. And I’ve had a lot of syrah’s including multiple vintages of Grange. — 8 years ago

Corail Saumur Brut Cabernet Franc Rosé

I purchased this Sparkling Rose almost as an afterthought while on a wine buying trip in the States. Not expecting much at $15.00 USD as my wine consultant suggested that I pickup a couple of bottles. Wow was I pleasantly surprised. This Loire Valley Cabernet Franc reflects the clay regional soil in its minerality, clean, crisp dry taste. With a near perfect balance of acidity and sugar, hints of the local Aunis grape, perfect effervescence presents a beautiful exposition of citrus and Rose buds flavours on your palate. I most certainly will be adding this under the radar gem to my collection. Enjoy. — 10 years ago

Weill A Way Vineyard Exposition Two Syrah 2013

#AgedWineTuesday

Ruby in color with a wide reddish rim.

Strong nose and full-bodied with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate and elegant with nice complexity.

Showing black currants, black plums, cooked cherries, cedar, tobacco leaf, coffee, cola, dark chocolates, herbs, peppercorn, mediterranean spices and light earth.

Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries.

This is a gorgeous Syrah from Sonoma County. Rich and fruit forward. Smooth and powerful, yet elegant.

This 13 year old Single Vineyard Syrah is drinking very much like a Napa Merlot, which is so interesting.

Beautiful right out of the bottle, and so much better after 30 minutes of airtime. The high alcohol is nicely integrated by now, so watch out.

Robert Parker 100 points.

Peaking now, and will continue to drink nicely in the next 5 years.

A great sipping wine that paired nicely with food too.

A blend of 92% Syrah and 8% Viognier.

93 points

$160.

Tenuta Cappallotto

Barolo Nebbiolo 2010

A special bottling of the producer Villadoria, 100%-owner of the "Cappallotto" MGA in Serralunga d'Alba (next to "Baudana" & "Meriame") and home of the famiglia Lanzavecchia. "Paradiso" is the official single vineyard here (best exposition, old vines). The vinifciation is traditional in botti grandi. A very beautiful, succulent entry level Serralunga Barolo, showing quite youthful in 2010, as expected. Dark fruit, menthol, lavender and a bit of leather are the prime flavors. High tannins, that are well integrated. Pretty good structure and length. — 8 years ago

Astonishing find, single bottle from AA way back, powerful, subtle, complex, mouth-coating, yet lifted into long finish. Wow. From ‘30s vines and just missed 1cru due to slanted exposition. Stunner — 7 months ago

Valmur Chablis Grand Cru Vieilles Vignes Chardonnay 2008

True to site and vintage, ‘08 raciness is rounded by the southern exposition of Valmur. Very earth driven Chablis; wet mushroom, damp soil, chalk. A slightly more oxidative style of winemaking captures that more opulent yellow fruit well, adds more breadth to the palate. 80 year old vines I’m told. — 8 years ago

Was just drinking a Côte Rotie and wishing I had a Cali Syrah to drink beside and compare...but all the ones I have at home are Dragonette examples I need to let mellow at least another year. Thoughts on this vs. non-Californian Syrah?
