Pinot Noir Rosé 2019

2019 | Pinot Noir
Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey; Rosé de Pinot Noir
Burgundy; Côte de Beaune, Hautes-Cote de Beaune, France
(91-93; Drink 2023-26)

+3Y in the cellar has really benefited this wine, generous strawberry, ripe apricot, orange zest tingle the senses, finally.

On the Lawn at Tanglewood this afternoon with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Our conductor Andris Nelsons is leading Julia ADOLPHE (Makeshift Castle), STRAUSS songs with orchestra (Muttertändelei, Opus 43, No. 2 / Wiegenlied, Opus 41, No. 1 / Waldseligkeit, Opus 49. No. 1 / Ruhe, meine Seele, Opus 27, No. 1 / Zueignung, Opus 10, No. 1 / Morgen, Opus 27, No. 4) all voiced by our favorite soprano Renée Fleming, and closing with STRAVINSKY (Petrushka, 1947 version).

*Unfortunately, cellist Yo-Yo Ma has had to withdraw from today's planned performance of Shostakovich’s Cello Concerto No. 1 due to testing positive for COVID-19.

Calistoga Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

Tried the 2018 Cabernet yesterday, nice on opening but closed down quite quickly. But I popped it off the truck so thats to be expected. I’ll rate the 2nd bottle after a long hold.
This one is a different story at only $20.00 more. Great for having only a 1 day hold,
Winery notes,

Keeping with the theme of expansion, we added another block of older vines from Larkmead in 2018. Neighboring our original block of Olmo clone is a tiny block of Jenkins clone Cabernet resting in the same Cortina soil. We have always loved this clone of Cabernet having worked with it at Outpost’s True Vineyard and Gemstone Estate. There’s nothing else quite like it in the world of Cabernet. It manages to be both exotic and wildly singular while still coming across as very complete. It has proven to be a very nice complement to what we’ve been working with from Larkmead since 2012. The color here is a bit darker than normal with mostly fruit tones first present on the nose. That familiar muscular walnut husk, roasted nut quality of Larkmead pokes through quickly though placing this wine stylistically in more of a classic era of California wine. Where in the past this wine could be considered the “lightest” of the lineup, the 2018 shows the power of the vintage and a marked improvement from the addition of the new block. The fruit is still purple leaning and the ethereal notes of the past still pop out on palate entry but a weightier middle kicks in almost immediately with notes of sage, graphite, cassis, lavender and a brambly spice note. The tannin starts earlier too adding texture and a dusty, baker’s chocolate note. In the past, I felt this bottling would always need a few years in the cellar to present a complete palate expression. Not so here with the addition of our little Jenkins block. All these additional blending options from all these great sites prove in 2018 that sometimes more is more.

Can always count on you to take one for the team right off the truck, @Paul T- Huntington Beach! Solid score on this, but disappointing to hear about the Napa.

Napa just needs time, it was experimental with both of these. Not opening the Lore or Herb Lamb anytime soon either.

This was the WOFTN. Even better than the 03 Calon-Segur & 21 Lithology, but the Lithology had been open a week in the cooler. Still good just not its true self.

The winemakers for the 2016 Kelly Fleming Cabernet Sauvignon were Rebecca George and Françoise Peschon. Rebecca George was the day-to-day winemaker, and Françoise Peschon, consulting Winemaker.

Photo features their new consulting Winemaker, Jennifer Williams as if 7/23.

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2003

I’ve always loved the 2003 Napa Cabernets despite vintage charts and reviews.

This wine was procured at auction dirt cheap and it’s one of the early Kelly Fleming wines - maybe 2nd vintage.

Needed airtime and oxygen. Still a lot of power and dark flavors. Fruit remains and it’s quite a solid wine. Winner in my book

Wow, this continues to be one of my favorite Provence rosés, ripe strawberry, cold peach, watermelon rind, damp limestone, white pepper; with +3Y of age we're at peak enjoyment.

Two Brothers Sonoma County Pinot Noir 2016

A mid to light weight Pinot that, despite its name, is feminine in character. Plenty of freshness with rose petals and raspberries. The artwork in the background is Mortimer and Jenkins by Swoon (2012) - the two having a (possibly play-) fight seemed brotherly. — 7 years ago

Dark ruby coloration. Some translucency- classic Pinot appearance. On the nose, cherry, dark berry, plum, forest floor, earth, and minerals. On the palate, cherry, plum, dark berry, cola, fruit forward. Jammy. Nice medium to full body with velvety mouthfeel. Nicely balanced tannins and longish finish. — 3 years ago

A BTG offering at Angèle and what a delight. Pleasant Hill - aka JENKINS RANCH - is a proven Pinot Noir site in the as yet unofficial “Sebastopol Hills” area of Russian River Valley AVA. 2014 with 3-4 years of bottle time is bridging youthful juiciness with a flicker of aged character. Nice work — 7 years ago

Cabernet Sauvignon Rosé 2016

An excellent start to our weekend. Very nice floral notes give way to an elegant, fruit forward wine that screams drink me. It worked very well today in Houston with a temp in the 70’s, but it would really rock on a hot summer day. Beautiful fruit followed by a great finish. — 9 years ago
