Frice & Taylor

Taylor Vintage Port Blend 1963

Taylor’s 1963 Vintage Port ( bottled Corney & Barrow)
Quite light in colour , light garnet ruby , wide watery garnet rim . Quite spirity , with some high toned spiced dried plum , warm fire side hints, currants and liquorice. On the palate this is quite sweet and rich , dried fruits , spice and caramel , menthol , aniseed hints . Balanced acidity , though quite spirity on the palate and with a pretty sweet profile. Raisins , dried dark fruits , with a menthol , liquorice hint , dried spices . Good length and balance overall . This is still in a good place , though the alcohol does stick out a bit. This has now mellowed and is fully mature: it’s the spice and tertiary complexity that makes this wine so interesting as the density of fruit is slightly less than it would have been when I ‘regularly’ drank this 20 years ago. So, drink now and over the next few years , though I doubt there is any real rush . Bottled Corney & Barrow , with no label on this one , as is quite normal for these English bottlings.

Anjou Blanc Chenin Blanc 2024

Ming L
9.0

The fragrant nose shows green apple, lemon, pear, starfruit, and subtle fresh herbs. Medium body with round texture that balances the high acidity nicely. Touch of seashell on the refreshing finish.

A delightful Chenin Blanc.

Very good. Would pick up a bottle (had at a bunko’s night). Paired well with a lemon meringue pie. Easy drink on its own. — 3 months ago

Late Bottled Vintage Porto Port Blend 2019

Big, rich, ripe LBV with awesome fruit and structure, lacks the subtlety of the 1977 Graham’s vintage, but a great LBV as a sipper!! — 2 days ago

So, @Somm David T, thank you for the advice — we last visited Taylor-Fladgate in February of 2019, got a few nice pictures of the male peacock with the incredible plumage, but knew nothing about the Scion. If/when we go back to Porto, I will ask next time (can I use your name so they don’t think I’m just another American idiot/loser??) — sounds incredible, though, thanks!!

@Somm David T, also, we’ll be opening a 1977 Taylor Vintage Porto soon as well, I’ll report here how it was (purchased back in the early 1980s, with my other 1977s)!! Cheers!!

No name needed. Just ask for it. They make quite the presentation serving it. I’ll look for your note on the 77. Cheers. .

v07. Amazing! Deep purple color. Soft, dusty, slightly toasted nose. Rich, pleasing, blackberry fruit. Long, round, velvety smooth, slightly astringent finish. So good…last bottle! — 4 months ago

Enjoyable blend. Moderate fruit in both nose and palate on opening. Smoothed out with some time. Great value. Will get another — 11 days ago

$12.99? Are you kidding? This is a good rose for twice that. Great acidity, a little tartness, strawberry. Cab and cab franc. — 21 days ago
