Intense

Château Pontet-Canet

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2016

If I could use just one word? Intense! Still tight but the layers of dark fruit are starting to shine through the angular, lead pencil soaked tannins. Everything is super balanced and leads you to a grippy, lingering finish. Drinking it right here in the Idaho Mountains! What a life. Oh, talking about Idaho. It finally got on the map of Wine Folly! 2019 vintage. An extraordinary wine combining power and elegance. Layered and intense, with impressive purity, haute couture tannins, and an incredibly long finish. — 3 months ago

Château Cheval Blanc

St. Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 1995

What a gorgeous nose. A lush mix of dark brooding fruit with tobacco, plum, dried herbs and a hint of herbs. A hint of band aid. Rounded and delicious. Sappy and intense. Long. — 4 months ago

Château Montrose

Saint-Estèphe Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2010

Delectable Wine
9.9

The 2010 Montrose is one of the highlights of the Icons of Bordeaux dinner. It has a show-stopper nose with powerful, intense, mineral-rich black fruit, becoming quite floral with aeration. Potpourri hints complement tobacco notes. The palate is fresh, vibrant and weighty, yet paradoxically, it has wonderful finesse. There is a symmetry about this Montrose, coupled with a tremendous length that leaves you wanting more. Brilliant. Tasted from an ex-château bottle at the Icons of Bordeaux dinner at Legacy Records in New York. (Neal Martin, Vinous, May 2024)

Château Latour

Premier Grand Cru Classé Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2005

Delectable Wine
9.8

The 2005 Latour is a huge wine predestined for long-term aging. Noticeably deep in color, it has a showstopping bouquet with intense black fruit, graphite and touches of dried blood and tobacco as it considers moving into its secondary phase. But that's going to be slow coming...it's in no hurry. The palate is medium-bodied and unapologetically classic in style. I notice this bottle is a little grainy in texture, the salinity perhaps heightened as it enters adulthood. The finish has a tangible sense of tension, but it remains backward and swarthy. Immense. Tasted at Woo Cheong Tea House dinner organized by Paulo Pong. (Neal Martin, Vinous, February 2024)
