Jus Jus Night Chardonnay Muscat

A wine as bubbly as it’s label. It’s the friend that puts you in a good mood simply because you’re going to hang out, and you haven’t even met up yet.

Low alcohol and easy to sip or chug, no party fouls included. It’s not low on flavor—pineapple and juicy Granny Smith, a little bit of butter bread, and some Haribo peachy-o-yeses. Don’t let the sweet scare you, let it warm up a little bit from its chill chill mega chill and it smooths out like a summer sunset.

Amazing stuff, ripe and deep fruit, great acidity, lovely hints of mineral reduction.
One of many great wines in yesterdays’ tasting.

Château Léoville Barton

Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 1989

Competently made wine, but Leoville Barton is always my least favorite of the Leovilles. Just not very exciting or dynamic. Served with braised short-ribs in a savoy cabbage, with potato Napoleon, confit carrots, and a bitter chocolate jus. The chocolate actually helped the Leoville Barton significantly more than when it was on its own. — 2 years ago

Château Lafon-Rochet

Saint-Estèphe Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2001

Tons to unwind here. Black and green olives, clay and uncooked peat, multi grain bread, pecan, black sesame, mushroom fricassee, grilled filet with beurre blanc and jus. Sage, mint, and tarragon. All cohesively woven together; immaculate. That’s just the nose. Graphite and oak pencil the initial signature, which delineates the oeuvre. The cherry life cycle, from underripe to dried expressed in black and red; still-grainy tannins supporting. Raspberry tart, briary berrries. Rooibos tea, cinnamon and clove. Impeccable.

Domaine François Lumpp

Clos Jus Givry 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2015

Pretty ruby dress with brillance. Open nose, very Burgundian, between red fruits (cherry) and toasted oaky notes. Mouth, consistent with the nose, delivering as you taste many aromatic nuances, undergrowth among others. A lot of freshness yet for this 2015, it can still be drunk and evolve for several years.

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2006

Somm David T
9.2

The 2006 Bordeaux vintage. The vintage while wasn’t Bordeaux’s best, it certainly wasn’t one of its worst. It had the unenviable position of following a grand 2005 vintage. I think better than 2000, maybe 09 & 10? Jury is still out. The Bordelaise also got greedy and raised their prices from 05. That was a mistake when it came to selling the 2006 vintage and it laid another layer of bad taste in consumers minds.

I really enjoy Pichon Lalande’s style/craft. The 06 is good, not great. In fact, I enjoyed this better w/o the lamb.

The fruits are just ripe. Velvety, rounded M+ tannins. Brambly blackberries, dryish black plum, black cherries, black raspberries, strawberries, some raspberry hues, oak barrel shavings, graphite, dry soils, dry tobacco & leather, dry clay, soft but dark spice, some dry herbs, soft baking spices- clove, nutmeg, cinnamon & vanillin, light milk chocolate, caramel hues, black tea, anise, some mid berry cola, dry & withering, dark & red flowers, violets, decent, round acidity, balanced, neatly structured/tensioned with an elegant finish that lasts just over 90 seconds and falls on dry earth and soft, dark spice.

Still acceding and has 15 plus yrs of good drinking ahead. Could make a case for rounding up to 93.

Paired w/ Grilled Rack of Lamb, Served with Rosemary Jus, Fondant Potatoes and Steamed Broccoli.

In Amphoris Langhe Nebbiolo 2020

Love this every vintage. As is par for the course, this is a little fizzy (barely) for the first couple months after release, so just decant an hour before or the day before and you’re good to go. So smooth, lighter than last vintage but pure drinking pleasure. Super food friendly with blackberry cobbler, blueberries, savory thyme, au jus and nice thin tannins to the finish. NBI — 3 years ago
