Domaine Jean-Louis Chave

Hermitage Syrah 2021

Just stunning. Incredible concentration of tiny red fruit tightly wound violets and the smallest hint of barnyard. On the palate a shocking combination of concentration and over the top acidity that tingles and lingers — 17 days ago

Château Pontet-Canet

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2002

I love this vintage now. Cedar, camphor and pine as well as dry roses and pot pourri. Long finish full of elegance. The marker of Pauillac for me is blood sausage/iron/cured meat and here it was just exploding. Great bottle, classic, perfect for a blind tasting. — 23 days ago

Château Rayas

Réservé Châteauneuf-du-Pape Grenache Blend 2008

What a wine! Perfect garnet color. Smells of clean stables, roses, dry orange peel, herbs and stone. The wine softly coats the palate with vibrant red fruit and a symphony of acidity and balance that just envelope. Amazing wine. — 3 days ago

We recently had this by the glass at Peaks, NYC. We enjoyed it so much that we bought a few bottles. While I consider this to be a “construction site,” I respect what the Wagner’s have accomplished. Not gonna bother with tasting notes as this is just a cherry compote fruit bomb. Tasted using a coravin as a few glasses represents a meal on its own. — 4 days ago

Like Ron, I respect what Chuck and his family have accomplished over their many years. The style of this wine changed in 2012. Chuck made a business decision to pick at higher brix’s thus making a sweeter wine. It paid off for him in higher more consistent Parker scores and likely better sales. I am one who preferred this wine pre 2012 and have made the pitch to a couple of their staff to yeah make this style of new Caymus but also make Caymus Classic. So far, no success. 🤷‍♂️

@David T, I’m right alongside you. I wondered if I should “out” myself on this posting and figured that the truth would set me free 🙃

Château d'Yquem

Sauternes Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend 1999

Yellow gold with copper hue, quite thin pale rim . Caramelised pineapple, saffron , vanilla , creme brûlée , quite rich and decadent. On the palate again quite rich , barley sugar , creme brûlée and saffron, just enough acidity to balance and a little alcoholic warmth . On the medium length finish , lemon rind and a touch of caramel . This is probably at peak now , just misses a little vibrancy , freshness, however successful for the vintage . Drink now and over the next 10- 15 years — 11 days ago

Château Haut-Brion

Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend 1990

Saved in my cellar since purchasing it about 24 years ago. Deep purple color. Sooo smooth and silky. Some earthy tastes with tobacco flavors. No aftertaste. Just a little piece of heaven. 1990 vintage. — 9 days ago

Tenuta San Guido

Bolgheri Sassicaia Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Franc 2007

Finally had my a-ha moment with this wine (after opening a 16 too early). 07 was just beautiful - kept growing in stature over the 3 hour meal. Drank in Venice to celebrate our anniversary. — a month ago

Just entering its drinking window. It has 40 years ahead of it. Excellent with Ribcap from Costco.

Interesting that there are some vegetable notes on the nose.

Very good evolution. Medium plus tannins. Juicy, ripe blackberries, black raspberries, darkest cherries, black plum/ with skin, ripe strawberries, some blue fruit hues, cedar, black licorice/cola, dark rich earth w/ leaves, sandstone, steeped sun tea, light limestone powder, ripe, light, dark spice, clove, light cinnamon, hints of nutmeg, vanillin, moist volcanic clay, fresh red, dark flowers, framed in violets, round acidity with polish/balance, softly tensioned, elegant that falls on mineral & clay that lasts two-minutes.
