Right after opening: black fruit, powdery perfume, and rose petals wrapped around me in three-dimensional layers. 1990 really is a great vintage—every great vineyard site and every famous estate lives up to expectations.

One hour later: sandalwood, cream, aged Pu’er tea, and temple incense—the tertiary aromas had fully opened, and I felt as if I’d been carried back in a dream to the White Horse Temple.

On the acidity: vivid yet understated, with a firm yet balanced structure. Drinking such good wine lifts my mood too. — 5 days ago

Note, in 2019 hail cut yields by 40%, Deep Ruby with concentrated aromas of ripe dark fruits and spices. On the palate flavors of black cherry and blackberry with leather, licorice and smoky herb notes. Fine tannins, hints of oak on medium+ finish ending with fruit, herb and earthy mineral tones. Jarvis has always been such a unique producer with its incredible underground facility and fascinating lineup of wines. Their Finch Hollow Chardonnays (this one and the Unfiltered version) are outrageously expensive, but they sure know how to deliver on flavor profile.

My notes here are actually quite similar to the 2015 I opened last year, but everything is a touch more restrained. Normally quite rich with expensive oak usage, this seems nicely balanced…it’s almost fresh in profile. Sweet lemon cream alongside marzipan and sea breeze aromatically. From a phenolic standpoint, it’s close to some of the Aubert offerings with its powerful texture. Finishes with a surprising amount of honeysuckle, caramel dipped apple, and honeycrisp. This seems to be built for a bit longer aging compared to the 2015. I’ll be curious to see how the 2018 is. — 5 years ago

From a lieu dit surrounded by Gevrey. Definitely young but with a couple hour decant quite enjoyable and accessible. Tons of sweet cherry on the nose; aromatically really quite intense. Full on the palate, get more tannin than I was expecting, but very nicely balanced by a lot of acid. Enjoyed it with a roast chicken provencal but could have stood up to red meat too. Nice qpr at ~$30. Note this is not the “cuvee unique”, which apparently a 100% new oak bottling - this is the regular which is 85% old. — 6 years ago
