Les Monts Du Roy

Bernard Dugat-Py

Coeur de Roy Gevrey-Chambertin Pinot Noir 2009

Medium deep garnet, ruby core with medium light garnet rim . This is quite meaty and deep on the nose , with earthy dark cherry , porcini , sweet blackberry and spiced sous bois . On the palate this is quite severe and serious , darker fruits , ripe blackberry , cherry and hint of blackcurrant, herbal hints. Quite gritty , slightly drying tannins , fresh acidity . Earthy , dusty dark cherry edged finish , ok medium length. Quite ambitious for a village and arguably not ready yet , tannins need a little more time to integrate. From now and over the next 5 years, if not longer . — 3 days ago

@Andrew Cullimore i’m still sitting on my ‘ 05’s from this producer. Stylistically not everyone’s cup of tea..

Yes , I would agree with you there @Ira Schwartz , and no it’s not my preferred style , but it is certainly a well made wine . Based on my experience with 2005 in general , you will probably need to leave your Dugat Py’s another decade !

Monts Damnés Sancerre Sauvignon Blanc 2010

Rounded and quite plush on the nose. A little whiff of age… rounded and still quite fresh. Lacks the cut of the younger wines — 5 months ago

Too bad that more people have discovered the wines of Sylvain Pataille. Still well priced but more competitive to buy them. — 2 months ago

This needed some air to open showing dark cherry, berry fruit with lots of spice, earth, mineral & violets — 3 months ago

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2011

Great fruit even at this age. The only issue I had besides the slight bell pepper is how rough the tannins were and the coconut on the nose. American oak? Not something i’d think Roy would use. — 6 months ago

La Côte des Monts Damnés Sancerre Sauvignon Blanc 2018

I've had worse! But 2017 edges this one out slightly. This 2018 is less complex, but shows pleasant flavors of green apple, melon, grass... a stiffer finish than previous vintages.
Listening to the thunder outside.

A little farmyardy on opening, but still some pleasure in this forgotten oldie from the cellar when it opened up… — 5 months ago
