Penfolds

Grange Bin 95 Shiraz 1990

Still celebrating that LNP win in the Qld State election. Deep crimson with a tawny meniscus. Dense and rich on nose and palate. Blackberry, mocha and dark plum as mentioned in prior notes. Very balanced with nothing protruding. At 34 years of age the oak has totally integrated when in its youth it was prominent, like many Penfolds reds. Supple mouth feel and incredible palate length. Previous notes mention that this was Wine Spectators Wine of the Year and definitely put Grange on the map in the USA. 95% Shiraz, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. Unreal! 98 points. โ€” a month ago

@Bob McDonald, Iโ€™ve been buying Grange since the 1977, which I bought in NYC around 1985. Anyway, my point is that certainly Parker in the Wine Advocate were extolling the virtues of Grange years before the 1990 was WS Wine of the Year. But lucky you to still have some!!

Not sure about mixing wine and politics itโ€™s a bit like talking religion over Sunday lunch given the religious and political persuasions of the populace
That said I have a 1990 stashed away which I might try this Christmas ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

August West

Rosella's Vineyard Pinot Noir 2007

A lineup of 10 August West and Roar Pinots, 2007-2011, all made by wine maker Ed Kurtzman, who attended our tasting. This one was a bit faded so ranked lower than its peers. โ€” 3 years ago

Chรขteau Pontet-Canet

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2016

If I could use just one word? Intense! Still tight but the layers of dark fruit are starting to shine through the angular, lead pencil soaked tannins. Everything is super balanced and leads you to a grippy, lingering finish. Drinking it right here in the Idaho Mountains! What a life. Oh, talking about Idaho. It finally got on the map of Wine Folly! Do you want to personally visit some of the best Idaho wineries and try their outstanding wines? Go to www.spokenwines.com ๐Ÿ˜. And while you are there signup for our monthly newsletter. Loring Wine Company

Clos Pepe Vineyard Pinot Noir 2009

Wes Hagen, 20 year veteran wine maker at Clos Pepe Vineyard, joined our group and gave us a master class in Santa Barbara pinot noir. We tried 11 PNs from 2004-2010, made by Loring, AP Vin, Sandler, Siduri, and Brewer-Clifton. This 2009 Loring had the meaty flavors that I love in a great US PN. โ€” 8 months ago

Rhonda loves, and says buy it all on chairman's. At total wine and Moore it is $17 before discounts. It is winery direct, so buy 2 cases at 20% off. โ€” 3 years ago

John Duval Wines

Entity Barossa Valley Shiraz 2018

Love, love, love this wine from an ex maker of the revered Penfolds Grange and instigator of RWT.
A gem of a wine that punches well above its price point. 18 was a good vintage but this is already drinking well with some development. Itโ€™s going to be stellar in 6-8 years.
