Riserva Pipparello Montefalco Rosso Sangiovese Blend 2011

2011 was ready to go. First montefalco I’ve had with mellowed tannins - huge nose and smooth delivery — 4 days ago

Benedic Red Blend 2023

Forest floor, herbal, light tannins, wonderful. The Trappist nuns with advice from Paulo Bea have done it again. — 20 days ago

Les Plantenays Rully Chardonnay

Ms
9.5

Best QPR Bourgogne Chardonnay out there. On par with Meursault but with a drier finish. Oak, buttery palate with exotic fruits and citric nose. Hazelnut, lemon peel, dry pineapple, hay and “farm” scent at first, then vanilla, dates, and butter kick in. — 3 months ago

Rosso de Véo Umbria Rosso Sagrantino 2015

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of a couple hours. The 2015 pours a deep ruby/purple color with a near opaque core; medium+ viscosity with fairly significant staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of ripe black and red fruits: black cherry, mixed bramble berries, spices, horse blanket, espresso…powerful. On the palate, the wine is dry with high tannins and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and wild. Whoa, the structure is significant. Drink now and through 2040. San Valentino Sangiovese Blend 2016

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of several hours and this gained momentum as the minutes rolled by. The 2016 “San Valentino” pours a deep garnet color with a near opaque core; medium+ viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of ripe black and red fruits: black berries, black plum, Morello cherry, spiced meat, old wood, varnish, cumin and dry earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long, tangy and slightly savory. These are showing very well at this stage and I don’t expect that to change for many years to come. Drink now with patience (perhaps even a 30min decant) and through 2036. — a month ago

Coenobium Lazio Bianco Trebbiano Blend 2013

nuns made this wine! with paolo bea!! kind of reductive, nutty, a little appley, almost a sherry quality but solid acidity to hold it together. — 2 months ago
