Fattoria di Fèlsina Berardenga

Fontalloro Toscana Sangiovese 1999

Seamless, delicious, has years ahead of it. Oak? Yes. But reasonably well integrated. Nice wine. — a day ago

Le Serre Nuove dell'Ornellaia Bolgheri Rosso Merlot Blend 2022

Medium dark ruby color, medium high acidity, tannins are there but pleasant after 3 hours in open bottle. Nose of dark fruit, dark chocolate, espresso. Taste of dark fruit, oaky flavors. — a day ago

Tenuta Col d'Orcia

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2019

Shoe leather on the nose. Red fruit on the front. Light tannic structure. Not much body. What body there is fades on the end. Short finish. Except for the slight scent of mouldy shoe leather on the nose, there’s nothing objectionable about this wine, but it’s weak and watery and without much character. Meh. But wait!…

I left the remainder in the bottle, and 24 hours later it had developed quite nicely. The nose had developed into unripe cherries—losing the moldy leather smell. Red fruit developed on the front, and the tannic structure improved. And it developed a longer finish. I upped my rating from an 8.6 to 9.0.

Marchesi Antinori

Guado al Tasso Bolgheri Superiore Red Bordeaux Blend 2023

2023 vintage. $120+ a bottle resto cost. I mean it’s nice but for that pricing and what I’d hafta charge for it? Hard pass. The new Antinori stuff (don’t ask about the whites) not working for me. Praying that their purchased property-Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars-has current offerings showing better for the pricing. Not holding my breath tho. 4.29.26. — 5 days ago

Bolgheri Red Bordeaux Blend 2010

Even after 16 years, this wine will last. Lush plum flavors, tobacco, mocha mixed with berries and leather. Has many years left. — 2 days ago

Valdicava

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2007

We had a vertical tasting with 2007. Both excellent. 07 lighter in color. 07 a little more fragrant. Both had tastes of leather tobacco and black cherry. Both medium bodied. Going forward, I will drink Brunello sooner than 20 years. Some fruit got lost a bit — a day ago

Fattoria di Fèlsina Berardenga

Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend 1999

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of a couple of hours. The 1999 Chianti Classico pours a deep garnet color with a near opaque core; medium viscosity with light staining of the tears and some light sediment. On the nose, the wine is vinous with lovely notes of ripe and some dried red fruits: Bing cherry, raspberry, red flowers, Pu-erh tea, porchini, dried green herbs, a whiff of varnish (letting you know it’s Italian), old leather and wood and gravelly, iron rich earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+. This 27 year old CC is sensational and further proof that Sangiovese rewards the patient. Drink now through 2039. — 2 days ago

Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2021

2021 vintage. Medium body. Mostly fruit, fewer herbs in the nose. Total green light now. Some structure but not excessively so. Dunno how long the show will go but fabulous now and without any significant speed bumps/humps. This is an excellent Brunello to showcase the allure for those that have never had the pleasure or "gotten it" with the area. 4.15.26. — 19 days ago
