About to go grill a beautiful porterhouse and popped this to go with it. So dead-on for old vine Howell Mountain fruit: intense cracked black peppercorn earthiness, stone dust, dark wild berry fruit. Palate is dense with the same components but whisked along by electric-tingly acids. It’s so hard to find that sweet spot of fruit, earth, acid, and this nails it. God this is good. — a year ago
Light bodied, slightly dry and moderate tannins. Easy drinking. Opened it up an hour before eating a porterhouse steak, but could have opened it 10-15 minutes before. Dark berries, little bit of tar, dried cherries. — 3 years ago
Just opened a bottle! Sette Ponti or "seven bridges," refers to the 7 bridges crossing the Arno River on the road from Arezzo to Florence. Blend of 50% Merlot, 40% Cab Sauv & 10% Petit Verdot, aged 18 months in new French oak. Had this in a restaurant with a porterhouse. Very dark Ruby with concentrated aromas of dark fruits & earthy notes. Flavors of cherry & plum with tobacco and spice. Fine approachable tannins, medium length ending with a bit of spice as the finish builds. Great now! — 4 years ago
Dark garnet purple with ruby garnet highlights. Abundant nose of blackberry and graphite leads into a full but lean palate of blackberry, leather ash, and ripe plum. Medium plus acidity and medium plus tannins balance the rich fruit yielding a New World Bordeaux-esque blend that’s ready to accompany any “red wine” meals. New Year’s Eve with a porterhouse steak. Capsicum/red pepper, herbal notes together with black currant. Oak has integrated well unlike the last tasting where it protruded somewhat. After a few hours and vigorous swirling red capsicum was the dominant note with the presence of geranium as part of the perfume. Shows the lighter 2008 vintage in Margaret River. — 3 years ago

Big, bold, beautiful Napa Cab! Notes of plum and dark fruit on the nose with a touch of smoke. Smoke, dark fruits, plums and licorice on the palate. A touch of sweetness at first but the finish is balanced and harmonious. Would love to have this with a porterhouse. Definitely a steakhouse wine. — 5 years ago

The boisterous nose is worth the entire price of admission on this one. Cedar, cassis, black and red berries, gravel, graphite, roasted herbs. Dark and intense in the mouth. Flavors on the lower end of the register. Tacky tannins still very present, but the flavors are nicely evolved. I’d say this is peaking soon, and probably won’t live to see the tannins totally softer, but they’ll be tamed by the porterhouse I’m about to grill. — 3 months ago
