Souverain Of Rutherford

Beaulieu Vineyard

Private Reserve Georges de Latour Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon 1970

1970 | Cabernet Sauvignon
Beaulieu Vineyard; Georges de Latour Private Reserve
Napa Valley; California, USA
(95-97; Drink 2025-40+)
3h decant

Nose has ripe cherry, cedar++, charcoal, grilled black cherry, faint olive and over-ripe blackberry.
Palate has dried cherry/blackberry, tobacco, strawberry, vanilla, dried mint, leather with medium+ tannins and plenty of acidity to hold for decades.

Epic, even besting the 1968 & 1995 for my palate!

Happy Father's Day 2024 to all.

Rubicon Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2013

Delectable Wine
9.5

The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Rubicon is dark, supple and super-expressive. It shows higher ripeness and a stronger oak imprint than the Cabernet Sauvignon. Even so, it has aged very well. Dark plum, espresso, licorice, sweet spice and a kiss of toasted French oak lend notable complexity throughout. In this tasting, ripeness and new oak feel accented, certainly more so than when this wine was younger. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, May 2024)

Quintessa

Rutherford Red Blend 2014

What a superb wine, first and foremost. Just so beautiful and powerful. A deep, dark burgundy color in the glass. The nose is pure and alive with cherries and blackberries initially. Oak, as ever, along with a slight hint of vanilla and earth. Really pretty floral notes which accentuates the total package.

Terrific depth and balance here. Every now and again Napa reminds you of what it can really be. Very modern and elegant with so much personality. Everything here is restrained and refined. The fruit on the palate is dramatic and fresh. Vibrant red fruit with the customary woodsy elements. A touch of tobacco and well integrated smoke just for good measure. The finish is long and lusty and leaves you wanting more. Made for the long run for sure but so delicious now. A true gem of a wine.

Sloan

Rutherford Red Bordeaux Blend 2002

Nose of camphor and graphite ahead of an insanely structured and primary Sloan. Espresso and blackcurrant, blackberry and fresh earth. Took 2 hours to come out from cellar temp, but boy what a show. This has 20+ years ahead. Phenomenal. β€” a month ago

Sullivan Vineyards

Heart of the Vineyard Red Blend 2012

Really a lovely Bordeaux style blend from Sullivan in Napa. I am biased as I spent a summer working there. Quite seamless, some nice cassis, has really come into balance. Bit of that very nice menthol laced acid refreshing note on the finish. Delicious and wonderful pairing with steaks on the grill. β€” 2 months ago
