The longevity this wine is capable of is shocking. The color hardly looks half its age, with a blooming nose that screams a much younger, softened cab of yesteryear. After half an hour open there’s nose of blueberry and butterscotch, vanilla and spicy peppery notes still persist! Over time a mustiness emerged, along with notes of wet wood, maybe even a little mustard! There’s even still a zippy, lingering acidity on the palate that focuses towards the tip of the tongue, either flavors of ripe strawberry, blueberry, plum and some meaty savory subtle notes, but primarily jammy fruit, with a palate that develops some woody cedar and forest floor notes and as it becomes further oxygenated. This is so impressive! — a month ago
An interesting wine in the style of a California’esque Chard with in Bordeaux varietals. It doesn’t titulate one’s palate because it’s light on acid, so better as a opening wine before dinner, rather than with it — a month ago
My last bottle of the 16 and quite different comments than previous bottles. Loaded with ripe dark cherry. Well balanced but the dark cherry is clearly primary. Tannins were perfectly softened. Medium plus finish. Very good wine but not as remarkable as the last bottle. — 2 months ago
It's time for some Merlot on this MerlotThursday. Let's bring Merlot back!
Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim.
Medium plus in body with medium acidity.
Dry on the palate with nice complexity.
Showing black fruits with light wood, spices, coffee, dark chocolates, earth, tobacco leaf, light black pepper, herbs, light vanilla and licorice.
Tangy finish with soft tannins.
This 5-year-old Merlot from Napa Valley is peaking now, and drinking very nicely. Fruit forward with an elegant mouthfeel.
Wine Spectator 91 points.
Good by itself as a sipping wine, and good for parties. Good with food too.

Opened a few days ago in the Northwoods of Wisconsin while visiting my boy at college. Spent a few days with him and the family making some memories. I didn’t try then, but it’s good. A bit of sugar on the pallet. Worth the price and will finish the rest with a Opus X. — 21 days ago
Lovely nose of black currant, dark berries, lavender earth, leather, and wood - the palate seems balanced but lacks density which is a detractor for me. This improved with a 2 hour decant — a month ago
Sipping Fine Wine
A great Cabernet Sauvignon, aged 18 months in French oak, about 50% new, deep Ruby with aromas of berry fruits, cigar box, lavender and spicy scents. On the palate flavors of black cherry, plum and currants with cacao, floral and minty notes. Fine dusty tannins, long finish ending with fruit, leather, tobacco, espresso and earthy character on a long finish. Very Nice. Will age. — 2 days ago
